Harper....The next UNLV head basketball coach

So if UNLV goes on a run and makes it to the MWC championship game, are we to pray the Rebels lose so we don't go to the NCAA tournament and possible keep Kruger?
Not just no but hell no. I dont think Kevin is the right person for the job, but i will route for him to win every game UNLV is in until the season is over. If that is the MWCT championship game I will be routing for him and the Rebels to win. To me routing for him to lose really questions what type of fan someone is.

Slow growth isn't dumb if it gets you to where you want to be.

What is dumb is expecting instant gratification and firing anyone who cannot provide that for you.

This year so far is about as good as OU has been in recent years, it isn't over, and they could fall off a cliff, Or they could find themselves back in the top 15 this year. Their schedule is brutal.

Here is the real question. Do you think you know more about hiring a coach then a reputable professional firm of a team of people that do this for a living. Or know better than an AD of a successful program? You that same program, that took our coach that half the fan base wanted to be fired because he "peaked" who then went to a final four?
What about slow fade? How much do we pay for that?

Won't be Wade. He's waiting for the right P4 opening smartly so...
Won't be a UNLV legend. Doesn't match the profile of coach we need. Also we don't need to latch onto past players with 0 head coaching experience again.. fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and 3rd time...
If I had to bet, it'll be either a decent former coach that's out of coaching currently or an up and coming success coach that can bring a roster with him.

UNLV isn’t going to be competing for the Will Wades of the CBB market. This is probably more in line with what UNLV can afford:

Bruce Weber

Juwan Howard (was considered prior to hiring TJO)

Josh Pastner

Randy Bennett (offered job in past)

Mike Hopkins (Dave Rice AHC?)

They all have drawbacks, nobody is perfect. It’ll be interesting to see if Harper actually does pull the trigger.

I’m not the type that can root for a loss just to get rid of a coach, even if I think that coach isn’t the answer. Would feel like self betrayal to me. I know most fans do and to each their own, I’m not going to try and talk them into my point of view and not going to belittle them for their own point of view. To each their own.
Last year if not for a run at the end of the season and playing well in the NIT, I think Kruger would nave been gone, another run through the MWC would mean another year in which nobody would go to the games.

I don’t question their fandom. Their eyes are, like everyone else, on the big prize. They just see a different path to get there.

And how hard you root for a team or root against a team doesn’t impact any outcomes, so it’s sort of the chips fall where they may and then you deal with it. Fans hoping a coach loses so they can get a new coach isn’t why a team loses. I know people like to blame the fans for successes or failures but come on …. It’s on the head coach. Period.
