He will be developed by a REAL coach!Knew that was coming. He’s not a PG but he thinks he is. Speaks volumes when you get benched in the conference tournament for Jordan Mccabe.
Can't offer them ugly hookers...like Louisville did.At this point would there be anybody on the current roster whose entry into the portal would surprise you? Not me. Why would they stay, other than they looked around, saw 2/3 of the team gone and thought, "Hey! I can get some run now!" I don't see the first brick of a program foundation laid. It's just been build, tear down, build, tear down. But, hey, at least we're not on probation. Which begs the question: Is there really anything a program can get in trouble for anymore other than, maybe, contacting a recruit on the wrong date?
He struggles to dribble. That shouldn’t have to be coached at this level. He will be developed by a REAL coach!
Is Marcus Banks still f*cking with the Vegas players head who play for UNLV?Just like I and many other people said, this was an easy call. He was checked out mid-season and thats why I said he was ejected from the UNR game straight into the portal. He will be developed by a real coach.
Overall, a solid player, but gets into his own head too much and then tries to play hero-ball without the same results that Harkless gets when he plays the hero.
Will he himself allow that?He will be developed by a REAL coach!
Players would rather get time and lose than lose time and win.Transfers are happening everywhere except UCLA who if I’m not mistaken have 0 on their roster, but At a lower tier MWC school like UNLV it will continue to be a complete roster turnover every year. Every player at UNLV falls into the category of not happy about not winning, lack of exposure or not happy about playing time and then looking to the future and knowing sticking around means a ton of new teammates and with the uncertainty of the HC.
A complete dumpster fire.
IMO, it will depend on a few things.Does anyone think that Kevin and Co. will be Abe to rebuild this roster into a contender in one recruiting offseason?
No. If you're a talented transfer(the type needed to compete in our conference), why come here, burn your transfer and then get stuck when the Coach gets fired at end of year..Does anyone think that Kevin and Co. will be Abe to rebuild this roster into a contender in one recruiting offseason?
Depends A LOT on NIL.Does anyone think that Kevin and Co. will be Abe to rebuild this roster into a contender in one recruiting offseason?
If we are counting on Nowell and Rodriguez next season is a lost cause.IMO, it will depend on a few things.
1. Who else leaves?
2. Can L Rod and Nowell step up enough to give us 2/3 of the points lost by Harkless and Gilbert?
3. Can JJ play like he did the last few games of the year?
4. Can we get a dynamic/scoring PG?
5. Can we get a powerful scoring big.
L Rod, Nowell, Cottrell, New PG and New Big could be a decent starting five.
Only if the New PG is Allen Iverson and the New Big is Kareem Abdul-Jabar.L Rod, Nowell, Cottrell, New PG and New Big could be a decent starting five.
Could crack 500 in the MWC with that lineup. Even finish 10-0 with an OOC in the 200’s, too. That’s close to an NIT bid.Only if the New PG is Allen Iverson and the New Big is Kareem Abdul-Jabar.

Better than this year.
When I said this during the year about his play I got disputed ad naseum. I agree that, on a good team, he’s neither a PG or a starting 2. He’s not happy so he’s leaving.I would like to have seen him stick around and hopefully get a few things under control like his turnovers. Not sure what happened to his shot in MWC but ever since the Christmas break he had become a liability on the team. He cannot and won't be a pg at a major college. He can't create his shot and stretch the defense which is what a 2 guard needs to do. His one big skill set was driving to the bucket but the 2 guard needs to stretch the floor.
Maybe he goes to a small school and is a big fish in a little pond or he goes to a good program and is a guy that comes off the bench to provide a defensive spark. From what I am seeing in this tournament those are his 2 options. Does not have the necessary tools to thrive in a power 5 conference.
You had eyes. You saw him fall off a cliff, lack confidence and just spiral into an inconsistent player that had little value. You aren’t afraid to admit what you are seeing - but that makes you a bad, unsupportive fan, you see. Grab some Kool Aid, gather round the campfire, toast some s’mores, sing Kumbaya … now that’s a good fan. Make up shit that sounds good even though you’re only trying to fool yourself. Talk about how it was a good year or a good two year stretch. Feel better. Just believe things are pretty doggone good. Made a ton of bad decisions that was costly for us thought the year SF not running the play that was given to him (hero ball) and not picking up CSU player before game tying shot. The refs screwed us all year too, damn Dave Hall and the MWC refs cost us our shot. But hey, we’ve won a lot of games in the last two seasons and that’s what it’s all about. Nevermind that we weren’t even on a lousy NIT bubble list, that’s only because of East Coast bias."We're just a PG away"
No chance in hell. He really isn't a good coach. It took 20 games before he figured out that maybe switching every screen does not work. He then went to about 2/3 switching everything. We should have went 6-4 or 7-3 in the OOC schedule but thankfully those teams sucked and couldn't hit wide open shots.Does anyone think that Kevin and Co. will be able to rebuild this roster into a contender in one recruiting offseason?
I fell for the winning games scheme, still think having a softer OOC can be helpful with right coach/team...and It was nice to win more than losing for the first couple of months, and with right coach, they mightve been able to actually be competitive in conference play even with roster construction constraints. But the argument I keep seeing is that Lon had a similar record through 2 years and can't help but smh... like the 2 are somehow connected and that dumping your entire roster every year will produce a different result. Mid-major programs just can't get enough high level talent to do that. And the trap that will happen is if somehow we get a team that makes its way into the tournament next year, they'll be shouts from the rooftops of how any doubters are not true fans... and then the roster will dump over again and we'll have 2 or 3 more years where we're chasing that same roster magic.. it's a spiral that not keeping/recruiting/developing HS kids createdThe refs screwed us all year too, damn Dave Hall and the MWC refs cost us our shot. Win totals are everything, the only thing. Let’s play Time Life Books, St Katherine’s, and Incarnated Words in home and homes, let’s toss in a home and home with Whittier while we are at it. We can get a little risky and throw in a game vs High Point and Gardner Webb.
If we do that, we will get to 10-0 or 11-0 to start out the season with an excellent resume for the NCAAT. Then if we catch some breaks and non biased refs, we can go 9-9 in conference and finish 6th in conference, win that first round Wednesday MWCT game to get to 21 wins which would be a resounding success and cause for a three year extension. And then the world is our oyster.
Lon’s conference was much tougher, he played a better OOC. And even though I felt they underachieved overall, they had better wins and they ultimately made the NIT. Don’t get me wrong, I had participation trophy events and that’s what the NIT and worse are. And Lon had a very long track record in different environments. He was proven, not trying to prove.I fell for the winning games scheme, still think having a softer OOC can be helpful with right coach/team...and It was nice to win more than losing for the first couple of months, and with right coach, they mightve been able to actually be competitive in conference play even with roster construction constraints. Basically, if you're a first year HC, you relied on portal to transform program quickly. And if you're not, you've used it to augment and upgrade talent around existing core... other than Muss, who we know loves transfers
And they will make the tourney.Yep, watch what Pitino does this offseason at SJU. I have no idea who is on the Johnnies roster currently but am willing to bet there will be 10 new guys next season with at least 5 of those high impact guys.
WE can say whatever about him. Regardless that is a impressive list. If he lands on almost anyone of those teams.
Gilbert with a coach who has the "luxury" of developing and paying attention to what he needs to expolit his talents will be good... him at WVU would be down right scary in a season or 2 with the way Huggins coaches.
