Hawaii

I just looked at a map of the United States and Hawaii is just southwest of Southern CA, what are you guys talking about?!?!?!?!?

Also, how is Hawaii so warm and Alaska so cold if they're right next to each other. I've always wondered that.

It's a latitude longitude thing coupled with the 45th parallel and the equator intersecting. You wouldn't understand

Still no word on whether Hawaii will come in with all sports. But, I found this good article which mentions the specific costs of Hawaii's travel and the subsidies it pays to both the MWC and the Big West based on time zones...

Not a big fan of the travel subs. I think it’s kind of bush league and we should drop them.

Especially if we’re screwing Hawaii out of millions and only giving them 5% of the exit fee money. They're at least as valuable as UNR and SJSU who are getting 11.5%.

I think we should waive UNRs exit fee and give them to the PAC12 as a peace offering.

If we give them extra exit money that is still just a short term solution for Hawaii. Their travel expenses to the mainland is about $1.5 million per the article. Now what we need to do is take the average of the 7 other MWC schools travel cost which I'm guessing is less. Then subtract the average travel costs from the $1.5 million. Let's say for example that it shows Hawaii with travel costs $500,000 more than what the average 7 pay annually then that could be the amount we give Hawaii extra on their annual media revenue payout. That way everyone is pretty much on a level playing field.

But, I think the holdup on them accepting is that media contract they have with Spectrum. They may be making more money than what we are getting on our media contract. That and we don't sponsor all the sports they participate with in the Big West.

LV Review Journal article today says talks are still going on with Hawaii regarding joining as a full member. They may be taking a slow path as they hold all the cards and they want a larger share of the pie than that 5% they were given.

Gloria had better not **** this up. We need Hawaii and if we dick around too long don't be surprised to see the PAC start calling them. I don't know how solid the Hawaii commitment to the MW is.

To the Hawaii AD - "We will throw in an extra night at the Cal each time you come to Las Vegas."

Hawaii AD - "Brah!!! You've got a deal!"

It is a sticky situation.

all of the other teams have agreed to the terms of the memorandum. A bigger regular cut will be hard to do, they other 6 teams would essentially have to agree to taking less than they signed up for.

The only way around this is spending more of the acquisition fund on them. Like the money they are using to bring in UTEP. However, I still think the amount is a bit unkown right now.

Hawaii seem like a no-brainer to me. Add'l travel costs far below costs of luring some other far-flung institution in. Although frankly they would fit better with the Pac, travel-wise. Quite a bit closer to most of our new schools.

There are also some other factors slowing this down. They have their deal with spectrum. It can be a pain for MW conference games to be seen in the mainland. Perhaps they need to work out some deal to acquire some of those people into the media infrastructure?

Yeah, it may not having anything to do with the PAC. The Big 12 may invite Oregon State and Washington anytime now..

Hawaii has always been a good fit for UNLV. They always bring large crowds, and are a good fit for the MWC.

Not arguing that.

My point was we all collectively chuckled when Memphis told the PAC to kick rocks. But our conferences future is being dictated by Hawaii...

Not saying the PAC was the right choice for UNLV, but the MWC is now a step up from CUSA. Not sure that was the vision of the Fertitta football complex and playing in Allegiant.

We made our bed.

Now we just have to root for our team, to kick the doors down on a Big 12 invite.

But I'm going back on this soapbox. Fan support matters. Get your friends (not just you obviously) to go to games. Set up DVRs for everyone that will let you touch their TVs. Improve the metrics!!!

The better we get, it is actually even MORE important to show out. Unimpressive numbers with mediocrity or less is one thing. Relatively unimpressive numbers with a quality team is another

Take them off our hands..

Thanks

1. Bullshit. I will assume you are joking
2. So how does the Pac-2 swing this? Can we collect the $30M exit fee from ourselves, then split it between ourselves before we exit? :)
3. WSU and OSU aren't going anywhere. Too much money to still be collected from the RB contract, NCAA BB credits

We will NEVER get a B 12 invite without a MASCOT.

It's like the UTEP AD. Told their fan base you got what you wanted. A better conference. But for UTEP to succeed it's time for you to pony up.
