we're probably going to start 5-0. however, its entirely realistic that we could be 6-5 or 5-6 after 11 games.

Offense looked great with ball movement last night - how much of that was our development and how much of it was new mexico overplaying traps at mid-court?

New Mexico had the same record as us going in. Ill take the road win. If play continues to be similar for the next handful of games I could see a 6-4 through our toughest stretch.

Should I dare say 20 win season???? :basketball:[cheers]

16 games remaining on the schedule (including at least one conference tournament game). I see probably 6 more wins but possibly 10. Hope the Rebels prove me wrong by overshooting that estimate.

I put in bold the ones I think the Rebels will win and italicized the ones I think they have a decent shot at winning. This is based on how they played the last 2 games and assuming Diong is coming back healthy

Based on the way they played against New Mexico, I would have them favored for a rematch. I agree with AF, SJSU, Wyoming and Colorado. SDSU and BSU are both bad teams that I do not see winning both games verse UNLV. The tough games will be unr, utah st, and fresno st. I see 9 wins total to be well within reach, and I can see UNLV pulling a couple of wins from the 6 tougher games.

We only play USU and FSU once. 2 tough games and two so so games. I can’t remember which we get here, which away.

You are right regarding those two games. So we have a total of 4 hard games. The remainder of the conference is at a similar level or lower than UNLV.

11 total or 11 more beyond the 3 wins? Steal a couple of wins, and they have a very good chance of finishing top 3 in the conference.

At least 11 total which would be top 3. Which is good because I don’t like blah play in rounds for the MWCT.

But if youre top 3, a few games back of 1st, to me it’s not some huge accomplishment at all. More than half the conference will be sub 200 and the rest sub 100, so at that point, you’re finishing on the top or near the top of a pile of garbage. It doesn’t get you anywhere significant in the grand scheme. It gives quick bites that can be used by the university to pump things. Whoopee. I don’t sink my teeth into spin.

Quick, who finished 2nd in the WAC last season? Anyone? Anyone? Beuller? Beuller? Beuller?

I checked. Utah Valley with 20 wins, 96 RPI, SOS 137, 2 games back of first from NMSU. WAC was #15. That could very well be us (we’d probably be a bit lesser). So being as good as Utah Valley last season, eh, doesn’t really do a ton for me personally. For some perhaps, not me.

But I don’t need those comparative numbers to know what I’m seeing with my own two eyes. We can wait until the end of the season to say the conference is terrible (a very significant 6-8 spot drop from last years poor conference) or, I can call it by what is very, very apparent, something that Hank could see if he put his patch on the wrong eye. It’s really bad basketball.

Sadly, at this point, I would be satisfied with the experience of going into the Saturday of the MWC tournament with the excitement of having a shot at pulling the upset and getting into the big dance.

Oh, no doubt. That would be cool. Nothing like a post season atmosphere. I loved the Friday quarterfinals of old. The Mack was charged up. Was awesome. I used to take the week off and look forward to it. Now I take the Rebel slot time off, show up, leave. It’s a morgue. Doesn’t feel nice.

It used to be a major event. I would buy the best tickets I could get - I went as far as to buy tickets though Air Force one year. Then they kept calling back every year after that. Take the whole week off - it was an awesome cheap vacation. Look for Snake, make fun of barrel guy, trade shots with STDU fans - so much fun.

Now? Not so much.

I still get emails from Air Force.

I am sticking with 20 wins. I am seeing a turning point. Damn I hope I am right but I tend to error on the side of optimism. That is just the way I am wired... UNR .:chairshot: Would like to at least split with Reno community college....

I’m predicting we beat reno once or twice this year maybe three times. I can’t wait. Screw em...

We’re Number One, We’re Number One, We’re Number One & will remain that way for a while, enjoy it. These guys have my total respect, they go out and battle for UNLV night after night in spite of the fact that they are badrapped by the very ones that are supposed to be their fans, they play their hearts out in front of far too many empty seats, they give their all for a coach that chose them and respects them but the community does nothing but talk about how bad they think he is and who is gonna replace him.

Kind of reminds me of the old Tark Rebels in that it was them against the world except this time the Rebels don’t even have the support of their own community. In the words of Trump, “SAD”.

This team is bonding, fighting, improving & leaders are emerging from likely and unlikely places. Different guys are stepping up in different games. These guys are Rebels through and through, more than any team we have had in quite a while and they have my respect.

I am with BornRebelRed, we will beat Reno and there is not a team in this conference we cannot beat. And wouldn’t it be the irony of ironies if come tourney time we are the # 1 Seed in the MWC Tournament.

One game at a time I suppose. If Air Foyupsets us , I will sway back to ... lets get rid of Menzies lol. However, I’m predicting a double digit win next week. I believe we have “found it” and turned a corner..

If there's one thing Menzies does well, its conference play. At NMSU he posted a 77-70 .523 OOC record, but he was 121-41 .746 in WAC play. Of course the MWC is much better, but its not like Marv was playing brutal OOC schedules. This is the first time UNLV has started 3-0 in league play since the 98-99 season. I guess Menzies is just really good at figuring out opponents he see's often.

Right now the WAC is better than the MWC and in MM’s years in the WAC, those WAC conferences would have been stronger than the current MWC, so maybe this is in his wheelhouse.

One night he asked Winnie Palmer (Arnie’s wife) if she did anything special before he played a tournament to which she replied “I kiss his balls” to which Johnny replied “I bet that makes his putter stand up”
