Here is my take on it. The facilities are top notch at UNLV. It has been proven you can win at a high level there. This is 2 times now big names have come out and said they are interested so you dont even have to sell the job. So how can 2 ADs in a row now in this situation have names in the first search such as George Karl, Steve Lavin or even Doug Gottlieb say they are interested and not even make the list over Marvin Menzies. Then in this search guys like Steve Lavin and Mike Miller who would bring instant excitement and the current players would stay cant make the list over TJ Otzenberger??? This makes zero ****ing sense

The local media feels that the national perception of UNLV Basketball is so low that we should be grateful that a successful coach from a " bush league " even considered us. Joe is on point when he suggested that everything should be torn down and rebuilt beginning with the president and AD positions. You are running an athletic department and not hosting " The View."

So done with UNLV. Wish I went to college elsewhere.

Time to find a new college to root for.

You need to change the Title of the thread to "Coaching Search Mess 2.0 ! Smh DRF is looking more and more like TKM 2.0 !! SMFH......

Cool. We have a coach O to compete with Duke's coach K. No sarcasm meant, but the search went better than some previous searches, assuming coach O doesn't bail out in the next week or two. The fact that the search was completed reasonably quickly, meant that the number of unreasonable rumors created about the search were minimal.

He is young and has had success. I hope he brings real enthusiasm to the job. His first job is to convince as many of the current rebels to stay as possible. Having a competitive team in year one is very, very important. Because it is clear that in LV the clock started ticking as soon as he was named the new coach. Good luck Coach O. Go Rebels!

This is a great post.

I've been struggling with why people are calling this search a mess. Did we get our slam dunk? No, I wouldn't say that. Was it an absolute debacle? I would say we were closer with the slam dunk. No leaks, no "I accept.... wait nevermind" candidates. We just found out why Nate Oates name wasn't around long (Alabama). Name recognizability? Probably a D because at least TJO could stick after a day or two. Fortunately, quality searches don't rely solely on names.
