UNLV had sucked at basketball for so long i doubt they would make the list if the list was extended to 150. For this year it wouldnt surprise me to see UNLV finish in the 6-8 range in the MWC. That does not get you anywhere near the top 100

Great shovelers of shit to feed the tender hearts will proclaim some sort of greatness. And maybe, just maybe they’ll get it right after 7 or 8 years of the same nonsense.

Until they show something drastically different … my guess is more of the same …. But I’m a Debbie downer so maybe it’ll be great like the smoke blowers think. But none of their “studs” or “horses” or “beasts” of the last x years have made a dent in after college hoops either many didn’t while they were in college …

Benefit of the doubt all used up, again. Show it, don’t promise it.

I don’t think it matters all that much. Not many will watch, attendance will be down, results will be bland… and an extension at same rate of pay … and hope football stays up and camouflages basketball futility.

I hope you're wrong. As a student, this is the most excited I've been for a sports season to start in a long time-- I plan on going to every home game and getting as many others as I possibly can to attend as well.

That’s good I hope they become worthy of it

I hope I’m wrong and I hope you go to every single game regardless of the situation. and I hope you drag dozens of others with you.

Spilotro knows this team is really good and has a chance to win the MW. That's why he is being overly pessimistic, faking us all out with pessimism.
I don’t think I’ve had anything but pessimism, perhaps heavily guarded soft optimism at best … unfortunately, the results have mirrored.

I’m sure I’ll remain pessimist until we get some solid results or clean slate with a promising hire.

This will be the 12 consecutive season without a NCAA Tourney appearance and I think 17t h straight without a win. Next season’s incoming freshman were born that year or were a year old that UNLV beat Kent St in Omaha before losing to Kansas…
By far … and I mean it’s not really close … this is the longest stretch of insignificance UNLV hoops has experienced UNLV has had since Tark was hired. Spoon, Rollie and the Grg year were no NCAAT, but that spanned 2.5, 2 and 1 year. And Bayno broke up that grouping with 2 in 6 years. Then Menzies, Burger and KK in succession. Not only didn’t make the NCAAT, but not even remotely close to an invite. Bad AD’s/hires have consequences, a slow growth mentality gets you nowhere quickly.

> 50% of Rebel fans think that we are finishing top 2.

I think 4, more realistically 5 (so I took 3-4 hoping my optimism pays off). I can't talk myself into thinking that crack the top 3 in our league.

I think they are confused with football. Basketball couldn't finish top 2 in a 2 team conference.

I don’t think anybody has ever accused UNLV fans of being very realistic. Just a notch below Lobo fans.

This is the year we prove them wrong, we are loaded, the future is bright. Ok. Got it.
I remember when we lost to some truly horrible team in Australia under Rice and it “didn’t mean anything” because it was an exhibition. Then another it didn’t mean anything loss in Canada. Then another vs NAU that didn’t mean anything because it was early in the season. It seems like we have an “it didn’t mean anything” loss every year now. Who will it be this year?

I don’t like to over read exhibitions because I realize coaches actually are using them as an extended practice, for evaluation.

But when there’s a large talent disparity, I don’t care what they run, what you run, shouldn’t be losing those games. And I absolutely understand early season hiccups, an unexpected loss can be a fluke thing. But you should not get Howarded.

I remember way back going to Canada with Lon’s team. We easily won all four. One time, I crap you not, would have lost to Dantley Walkers Panaca High School team. One team was “ok”, UBC, and it wasn’t smooth or pretty but still won by around 20. But I remember questions leaking into our mind because it wasn’t smooth or pretty … then again, they weren’t with Beck and Hannan replaced him and that’s a huge drop off in talent … but like I said, ugly, but still won by 20.

But you do not drop games like that. I think MM had one against the U of Puerto Rico or something.

Like you said the talent is so different no way you should lose but if it happens once ok but for us every year we have some crazy loss.
