If a successor isn’t named immediately after the Odom to Purdue news is official. Then I don’t see Harper retaining any of the coordinators to be a HC. If that’s the case, let’s look at who is available:

Bill Belichick, former NFL Head Coach + plus naming his son as HC in waiting.

Dan Mullen, former Mississippi State and Florida coach

Brennan Carrol, Washington Huskies offensive coordinator.

Will Stein, Oregon Ducks offensive coordinator

Tim Banks, Tennessee Volunteers defensive coordinator

D’Anton Lynn, USC Trojans defensive coordinator

Bob Chesney - James Madison HC

Tony White - Nebraska DC

I also think there’s current head coaches that would probably like to be in Vegas. It’s hard to identify those though without connections and back channels that Harper has.

Tony White took the DC job at Florida State earlier this week.

Just posted a list one the other thread, but these are ones that came to mind (with previous HC experience. Not saying all of these would be interested in us.

After arroyo was fired, UNLV said they wanted a HC that had HC experience. Odom met the prerequisites and took us further than we have ever been before.

I would think the new HC will meet the same prerequisites. I don’t care if he’s currently an assistant somewhere, I just want one with HC experience at the D1 level in his history.

Hiring a new HC who’s only been an assistant is a bad move and we’ve seen first hand how that can turn out

Gotta think Harp knew this was coming. I sensed a slight change in Odom’s demeanor after the MWC fallout. Not saying not going to the PAC caused Odom to leave; I suspect the more likely scenario was Harp checking on Odom’s commitment to stay if UNLV somehow found the money to pay the exit fees and increase Odom’s salary and his coaches but Odom was noncommittal. At that point the die was cast and it was just a matter of time. Harp’s had time to prepare for this and based on his last football search/hire I hope he has a plan in place. It could be Marion or Sherer or a search/quick interview process of coaches who have been on his short list. How the process moves forward may tell us a lot about what went down over the last 6-8 months.

UNLV won't touch Fitzgerald I don't think.

Rolovich feels like a legit shot.

Kingsbury out of our price range?

Hard to know how people view the job and what matters to them. I do think Kingsbury seems to prefer the NFL right now and is likely to get another shot if the Commanders continue to do well. Fitzgerald would be HR hire in my opinion, but yes, would have to navigate through the baggage to see if it was something you could do.

I completely agree with those that believe UNLV is much a more attractive job now than 3 years ago. At the same time, it's much more intimidating. Let's make sure the next coach isn't a delusional a**hat like Massimo that believed Tark was easily replaceable.

I want someone young and hungry. I want experience, but not too much experience. We need an Odom clone. Someone who tasted what it was like to be an HC, failed and then moved onto a DC or OC at a p4 school that had success.

I heard that a coach came into our practice facilities to tour them during the season. He wasn’t invited and nobody knew he was there. He just came in to tour and was blown away by what we offer.

That’s from a source I can’t name.
Was it a favorable name with regards to UNLV?
