Looks like he is the leading candidate.

Have to give it to UNR, they havent ****ed up their search so far.

Hope he likes working for minimum wage....

Hey now, they're paying him 500k the next couple years. Quite the haircut from those UCLA checks he was cashing.

The 10 year guaranteed contract is crazy though. The Wolf Pack will never be able to fire him. They're stuck with him even if things go horribly wrong.

Look at UNR. Huge stretches of sucking and then they hit a brief spike that brings them success.

Alford allows them to not bottom out at all in that ten years. You’re crazy If you think Alford is going to regularly finish in the bottom 6 of conference, especially this conference. Now he might not bring them greatness, he might not even approach Muss. But basketball isn’t their baby, when they suck at it it’s not like there is major outcry. But this avoids them sucking.

I don’t like Alford at all and I despise Reno. But even 10 years, I think it’s a smart move by UNR. Really smart. Alford may “suck” at UNR but it’d be the first time in his career he “sucks” somewhere and it’ll be the weaknest/easiest conference he’s ever been in, so I’d bet against him sucking.

Alford bombed pretty bad at ucla. Nevada will be a difficult rebuilding job. Pretty much nothing is left with graduations and players planning to transfer. You are done Alford!

Alford adds another dimension to the intrastate rivalry. It will make it a little more fun to beat our sister institution to the north.

I'm glad we didn't get Alford because, although he is a good coach, most UNLV fans dislike him and his antics. I don't like the fact that he is going to Reno because he is a good coach and I don't like his antics.

Don't worry. If he gets so much as a whiff of interest from any power 5 team all UNR fans will see is dust cloud/road runner style exit.

The first 5 years it looks like a decent contract but 10 is just stupid. With Alford you know they'll never be SJSU or Menzies 2016 bad but what if he can't duplicate that New Mexico success? I'm not convinced that Alford being back (even in a watered-down version of the MWC) automatically means conference championships are coming for unr now.

What if UNR is decent/good and finishes in the top 3-5 of the MWC for the next 5 years with no NCAA bids. Even unr fans will be getting antsy for the postseason at that point. Could they even consider making a change after 5 years? Absolutely not because even after 5 years UNR would still owe him a 7 MILLION dollar buyout to fire him. If Alford has a good run a P5 school will steal him, if not he's got a guaranteed job for the next decade. All the risk is on UNR. I'd be pissed if UNLV did a deal like this.

They didn’t get antsy last time. And that was with being really bad, not even mediocre. UNR fans do not have the expectations of UNLV fans. If the worst types of seasons Alfie puts up are 16 wins and a CBI... hell, they HANG those banners.
