I am seeing some things that I really like so far. First thing you notice is the discipline. It starts in the warm ups. Coaches are running stretching and loosening up drills and some really cool passing drills. Gone is the 20-30 minutes of dunk contest and jacking around. Very focused and purposeful time.

I was never a fan of Rice's defense. I don't really like the players switching everything. For me personally I don't think there is anything more effective and demoralizing to an offensive player than one guy getting up in his grill and dogging him all game long.

Next thing. We have an offense guys. I know I know, it's hard to believe but we are running an actual offense this year. Of course the great mystery will be will we have one when somebody throws a zone at us because nobody has yet.

I believe that MM wants Poyser at the point so that we can get our best scorers on the floor. Ochefuego and Poyser are undoubtedly our 2 biggest threats with the ball in their hands. After that I am not sure who we have that can go and get a bucket. Clyburn is gonna get his but he is a different kind of animal. He gets his in the flow of the game and is really an amazing athlete. He is our best on ball defender and was guarding the point guard in the second half of the first game. That is the one area of concern with Poyser and Och in the game together as neither can guard a good point guard. Mooring probably looks more like the guy at this time that is more of a true point guard on the team than any of the others.

Coupet got in the game tonight and man can he go. Great leaper and motor. Baxter is gonna be special. Morgan needs to settle down a little, really quick and long. Jones is a guy we have needed for some time. Can't wait to see him with Dembele and Morgan.

All in all it has been refreshing to see a bunch of guys out there at the T & M busting their butts and having a good time. Regardless of how it all goes I have no doubt this team will be easy to root for.

It is too bad that the crowds haven't been better for the team. Hopefully they will show up next Friday.

Go Rebs!

These two games was the perfect time to get the fans in the T&M, drop prices to next to nothing and let everyone judge for themselves if they are going to pay good money to support this team going forward.but no this did not happen and the size of the crowds and non excitement in the community has showed.

The local rags say we have a first 8, but don't say who they are. Nice.

Poyser, Jones, Baxter, Green, Clyburn, Ofoegbu, and Couplet are mentioned. I guess that's seven.

Buckley must be the 8th.

Remove Coupet probably, for now. Add Zion Morgan and Jovan Mooring. And then you'll add Cheikna Dembele and Dwayne Morgan when they return from injury.

By all accounts they have 9 guys that can play and provide some rest not counting Morgan and Dembele. Of course we haven't seen them play against more serious competition but I am impressed with how they are developing. Yes they have lapses in defense and had a couple terrible shots taken but Menzies doesn't allow them to get away with it. And he doesn't just let his assistants deal with it either. He gets in their face and then coaches them up on the sideline after so he isn't just chewing them out. I really like what I see. I'm looking forward to Friday to see how they play against USA. USA destroyed Mobile in its exhibition game.

Baxter is going to be good but he needs to control his emotions. If he wants to scream after a basket he should do it while running back on defense. And D Morgan came close to getting a T from the bench not once but twice. The good thing is I think he will bring that energy onto the floor.

We have a little bit of D Jones in Clyburn in his ability to score from a lot of spots on the floor. They are way more athletic than I thought possible given how late they were in recruiting these guys.

Uche needs to reel in the complaints to the refs. He stood on one end complaining while his guy ran a fast break for an easy two.

No doubt Coach Menzies with clean up that issue.

It was a good sign that they showed significant improvement on the defensive end from the first to the second game. D the first game was almost nonexistent and really tightened up the second game. This team seems more fun to watch than I thought they would be.
