I am seeing some things that I really like so far. First thing you notice is the discipline. It starts in the warm ups. Coaches are running stretching and loosening up drills and some really cool passing drills. Gone is the 20-30 minutes of dunk contest and jacking around. Very focused and purposeful time.
I was never a fan of Rice's defense. I don't really like the players switching everything. For me personally I don't think there is anything more effective and demoralizing to an offensive player than one guy getting up in his grill and dogging him all game long.
Next thing. We have an offense guys. I know I know, it's hard to believe but we are running an actual offense this year. Of course the great mystery will be will we have one when somebody throws a zone at us because nobody has yet.
I believe that MM wants Poyser at the point so that we can get our best scorers on the floor. Ochefuego and Poyser are undoubtedly our 2 biggest threats with the ball in their hands. After that I am not sure who we have that can go and get a bucket. Clyburn is gonna get his but he is a different kind of animal. He gets his in the flow of the game and is really an amazing athlete. He is our best on ball defender and was guarding the point guard in the second half of the first game. That is the one area of concern with Poyser and Och in the game together as neither can guard a good point guard. Mooring probably looks more like the guy at this time that is more of a true point guard on the team than any of the others.
Coupet got in the game tonight and man can he go. Great leaper and motor. Baxter is gonna be special. Morgan needs to settle down a little, really quick and long. Jones is a guy we have needed for some time. Can't wait to see him with Dembele and Morgan.
All in all it has been refreshing to see a bunch of guys out there at the T & M busting their butts and having a good time. Regardless of how it all goes I have no doubt this team will be easy to root for.
It is too bad that the crowds haven't been better for the team. Hopefully they will show up next Friday.
Go Rebs!
