Yes. Lets say we do miss the CFP, realistic possibility, but we win out, win bowl and finish season in top 15 of rankings.. All off season youre going to hear about UNLV. Everyone will talk about us. We will enter season possibly on the radar of a Top 25 pre-season ranking. Our recruiting and transfer class will likely take a huge jump- guys want to play for championships and a re-loaded UNLV program will definitely be a landing spot for talented guys...The Big 12 is desperate for more quality football teams. They have prioritized basketball perhaps a little too much.
UNLV being ranked, doing well against the B12 straight up, and being in a good market with some pre existing regional partners definitely helps.
Honestly both.As OC or HC? As HC oh God no.
Especially since they have run Jeanty into the ground and UNLV did a better job than anyone including Oregon of stopping him this season I think we would have a better than punchers chance of winning even on the Smurf turf.Having a bye week after a loss and playing at home. I hope the Bulldogs will be ready to put Unlv in the conference championship
As OC or HC? As HC oh God no.UNLV now is a similar level of program that Houston was when he was there.
I do think that some coaches have style that resonates better at certain levels. I do think at higher levels getting buy in for work ethic, playing for your teammates, and focusing on team first goals CAN be tougher, or some coaches struggle with that at higher levels.
When Herman was killing it at Houston, he actually was a guest speaker at an annual meeting that my hospital used to do for our outpatient divisions. He was a good speaker and had a good approach, so it seemed at the time.
I do think he would be worth the interview.
Remember Lane Kiffin kept underwhelming, then got better jobs? Tennessee, USC, the Raiders!? He is doing well now, but it took some years. Herman could be one of those.
Why does UNLV have enemies? It certainly can't be sports related as we haven't had any kind of success in sports for 30+ yearsI think it’s been UNLV’s actual goal, even against the P12 when the P12 was in tact. And I think UNLV will continue to pursue that avenue. But there are some significant road blocks within the conference that may make it too difficult. Hell, even in the watered down, weak P2 there were significant obstacles for UNLV to climb, member induced obstacles.
UNLV has enemies out there.
DEISomebody help me understand how Taggert kept getting big jobs.
WhoAll 4 teams in FBS with the Owls mascot have fired their coaches this season....or something.
UNLV now is a similar level of program that Houston was when he was there.I’d look at him for HC too if that position opens. Sometimes I wonder though if a guy who was paid 20million to leave Texas and now 4 million to leave FAU has the same drive and motivation as he did before he earned that first big payday. He wouldn’t be the first.
This is the terribly unfortunate yet realistic possibility that UNLC faces.. Finish the season 11-2, ranked in top 15 with a premium bowl win... Best season ever, yet miss conference title game and CFP spot because CSU played garbage conference schedule.
I do image that we could draw a better bowl than the LA bowl. i know its the top tier MWC tied bowl game, but a top 15 UNLV team seems like a good add to a better bowl
What? Another big time player CKK has p***ed off? Do not like reading about how great K Gilbert and K Hall are doing while we have mediocre players all over our roster.Rumor has it Whaley likely to Redshirt and very good possibility he transfers!

To their credit they've beaten most of their opponents pretty handily. North Texas game was 'close' but they kept a pretty potent N Texas offense in check all day. (Also helps to have an offensive drive last almost an entire quarter to limit their possessions.
ND probably beats Army by 3 or 4 scores.
If UNLV gets boxed out of title game at 7-1 in conference and finishes the season around #20 in the country (run table they should be close maybe 19? or 18? it would be pretty incredible feat by Odom.
Definitely possible that's how it plays out. Hypothetically, Army loses to ND. Depending on the severity, that would certainly drop them out of the CFP rankings (using last weeks rankings), but not change their standing in the American title game. Tulane vs Army is the championship game, both have clinched already. Tulane may very well lose to Memphis to end the regular season. Either way, it's entirely possible both or either have one more loss on their resume.
If CSU loses once, UNLV and BSU win out, I'd imagine a top 12 BSU will host a top 25 UNLV. Obviously BSU win and in. If UNLV wins, they very well could be the only ranked conference champ, where Memphis maybe is ranked by then, but can't get into the AAC title game.
I think Army losing to ND knocks them off the line, unless its close (personally, I don't think it will be. Charmin schedule. they beat an FCS team, then teams with the following records: 2-8, 3-7, 3-7, 3-7, 2-8, 6-4, 3-7, 5-5. SOS of 124. Same metric has UNLV at 84, BSU at 77, CSU at 89. (https://collegefootballnetwork.com/2024-college-football-strength-of-schedule/). Hard to fully buy into these, even for me... but just to put that out there.
If Marion moves on after the season, Herman would make a great OC.
One word HarbaughSomebody help me understand how Taggert kept getting big jobs.
Those metrics are full of shit. No way would I believe BSU, unr, etc.. have played a schedule even close to as hard as that of UNLV. UNLV is the only program in the lower division to play 3 P4 programs.Definitely possible that's how it plays out. Hypothetically, Army loses to ND.
