Odom and Purdue

It's better for him that Purdue is down. Less pressure. More satisfaction when they go up.
That's not how big P4 jobs work. It's why there's a lot of turnover at the mid-level P4 programs. They hire coaches with unrealistic expectations for winning. There's a lot of pressure to win, especially when your hire comes with big promises to boosters and NIL donors

Odom and Purdue

This is a ridiculous take.

The scale of the job, the notoriety, the upgrade it brings from a presence, and the likely financials.... I mean, why wouldn't he just stay an assistant coach at Ada HS in Oklahoma forever, that would be loyalty...
I understand the money, the better conference, the notoriety, all of that.

I’m just disappointed that the guy’s posting #OurTownOurTeam two weeks ago, and taking Purdue’s money like our money isn’t green too. Just not enough of it apparently.

A guy like Tark sure was special. That’s all I’m saying.

Keeping Odom.

Hey, Good Luck to your team Friday. This is a Purdue Grad, originally from Indiana, who has lived in Boise for 42 years (two daughters graduated from BSU). Coach Odom's name keeps coming up for the Boilermaker job. I work with a former BSU player who is very close to the coaching staff at BSU and he has been told that Purdue has been in contact with your coach, not surprising with his success. If you win, probably not going to Purdue. If you lose, decent chance to Purdue. My co-worker always seems to be in-the-know on stuff happening in the Mountain West. Purdue football is at an all-time low and would take some unrealistic magic to come back to even low fan acceptance in a short time. Do you think this pinnacle climb would be attractive to Coach Odom? Purdue has a great fan base but the AD has been a joke for football with the basketball success.
Guess my co-worker may have been spot-on. Time will tell how this works out as Purdue is really bad. Coach Odom will have the ultimate challenge if these reports are true.

So all of his #OurTownOurTeam bullshit goes out the window, hmm? Maybe I’m old but there’s something to be said for loyalty. He ain’t no Tark, that’s for sure.

There’s no loyalty anymore. Hasn’t been in awhile.

Very tough to find. Players or coaches.

It’s one reason why I advocate former players from glory years. The potential for them to stay, build, and maintain is higher - plus they have elements from the glory years, what it takes, what it means …. UNLV cannot compete with the money of others, so if we want to hold somebody, chances are much better if they have a strong pride/connection.
Yep you’re talking to the guy who wanted to give CDR a longer leash for just that particular aspect.
