Who said UNLV TV numbers were low?

Yeah, they are definitely a higher tier in terms of viewers. I won't argue at all that UNLV's history is remotely close to the viewership of the PAC schools.

However, it's difficult to compare a school like UNLV historically. On one hand, yes, we have sucked. On the other hand, it's not like many of our games have been broadcast on national channels at times where they would get a lot of viewers. I can't remember what channel is was, but I feel like I used to watch the UNLV football games on channel 12 or something like that, even just a few years ago. Maybe we'd get lucky and it would be on the MW network, but how many people actually have that channel?

I think the old UNLV basketball program shows what this university could be. Back in the 80's and 90's, UNLV was a household name across the country. And when it was popping, Vegas followed it big, as well as the rest of the country. The T&M was packed every game and had celebrities sitting courtside.

That's a glimpse of what UNLV could be, if they had the right resources, and the right people in charge. It seems like we're trending in the right direction (for football), but hoops needs a major rejuvenation.

Hopefully, the university makes the right decision on this current round of expansion, and they pour gas on the fire! If not, things could spiral downward in the next few years.
I DO believe the numbers OSU and WSU are obtainable. Getting into even the ACC or AAC, by proxy increase viewership. Dcut is right, a lot of the numbers OSU and WSU count on are opponents tuning in. Media deal writers underestimate Las Vegas’s place in the media space. LSU and USC overtaking the superbowl crowd numbers prove that there is big enough of an appetite for college football.

I wish we could get into the big12. Even though we would buried at the bottom half of the conference; we might have to open up the top bowl to get more seats.

Just wanted to post this while still reading another article. But, apparently the MWC gave UNLV just until today to accept the package deal and sign the GOR. We may know very soon our future.
It seems like Neverez is trying to PAC 2 UNLV. Force us to sign a deal that would lock us in to a contract with a lower ceiling.
We may just PAC 12 her back.

Or the MW will do what?

But guys, here is an excerpt from a post I just made on my board. F-ing fools over there are in lala land.

"Well are you ostriches getting nervous yet? AAC schools have published their intent to stay in the AAC. Can't believe we were stupid enough to offer Memphis and Tulane ahead of UNLV and whoever. If that is indeed the case.

F-this Gonzaga blather. Won't happen, and would only make things worse if it did.

We are left with this: Regardless of what we have committed to the traitorous 4 on exit fees, we now need to offer them, UNLV and whoever else out of AF/Wyoming or USU UNR/SJSU. Commit to paying ALL of their exit fees. All 6 teams. So, $67M in poaching fees, and $102M in exit fees. $169M out of our $250M. The rest will already be spent this year."

Anyone see another path forward? If so, let's hear it."

Edit - I wish a few of you would meander over to WAZZUWATCH and start flipping some shit. I'm sick of my fellow Cougs.
Nothing. They won't give us extra money and we may still end up in the MW. We don't have an invitation to the PAC as far as I know.

One other crazy ass article I read this afternoon is that UNLV was reaching out to the B12. These reporters, bloggers, idiots just love to pull things out of their anus.

Lol...The MW doesnt have that negotiating power. UNLV can sit and hold for the best offer to come. Thats what being the most desirable program in the conference right now does for you.. They want to know so they can make contingent offers to other schools, but UNLV can sit tight lipped. Thats part of negotiating when you hold all the cards
I'm not even aware that we've been invited to the PAC.

You all pay the 120 million dollar exit fees to the remaining MWC teams, then pay the 17 million dollar entry fees and join the MWC and stop this BS, or play on the CW for 2 million dollars a year vs Middle Tennessee St.

Yes, I noticed that line too. Seems like AFA jumped on it right away. I’m thinking we may be negotiating with the PAC still? I’m anxiously waiting to hear something about UNLV.

Who said UNLV TV numbers were low?

Averaging 2.2 mil between the 2 of them. Sure playing Oregon and USC, and to a lesser extent UCLA Utah juices those numbers, but still it is impressive. Our Kansas game was reported somewhere bewtween 800K to 1.2 mil, and that was good for us.
I think that WAZZU and OSU is worth about 20 mil per year for their annual revenue. They aren't worth 30, which is what the PAC 12 defectors are getting with the BIg 12, and definitely not worth to 50+ the Big 10 defectors are getting.
But to think that they aren't worth significantly more than all of the current MW at the very least most is foolish.
Can that continue without the rest of the old PAC, well no. But they have strong fan bases and are worth more than most are giving credit for.

I 99.99% believe there were backroom talks between Memphis and PAC early.

Memphis tells PAC Hell yeah! We're down! And if we go Tulane, UTSA, USF will follow.

All the while Memphis and those three schools are leveraging the potential move to the PAC to get a better deal out of the AAC.

I have this thing where I always underestimate how stupid people can actually be. I figured no way the PAC leadership would go full Leroy Jenkins! and do this unless they had assurances from other schools they could get it done.

Basically Memphis and Company Mick Cronin'd the PAC.
Yeah, it's looking like the PAC2 and the MW4 got Cronined.

I really wish I wasn't emotionally invested in this, because it's fascinating to watch unfold. But because I am it is an emotional Rollercoaster I would like to get off.

Who said UNLV TV numbers were low?

I m not disagreeing with you; I m just saying be careful of the metrics.

Lets take CSU for example. Someone could write that CSU had more viewership than USC (3.7m across 9 games) and had 4x the viewership in 2023 over UNLV (1.148m)

2023 MWC

TeamGamesAvg Viewers (Millions)w/o Colorado
Colorado State24.8860.471
UNLV31.148N/A

The average viewership for CSU when broken down just tells me Deion generates viewership. That has nothing to do with Norvell or CSU. Without the Colorado numbers, CSU is just above New Mexico in viewership.

Now lets apply the same metrics in 2023 with OSU and WSU.

2023 Pac-12

TeamGamesAvg Viewers (Millions)w/o Colorado
Oregon State92.3182.261
Washington State62.1582.445

Without Colorado, those numbers shift; but its not nearly as drastic as with CSU w/without Colorado.

I’m sure if you average out UNLV without Michigan; they’re still in the top quarter of the Mountain west, but numbers need to be taken with context. We aren’t a national brand yet. I hope we can punch out the year and become one.

To follow up, at this point, I might prefer UNLV to stay put. Get the lump sum payment rumored for remaining mwc schools, uneven distributions of media rights dollars, and improve your programs.

If it was that easy where is the UTEP and NMSU invites? Where is the UNM invite? They have more TVs and support than Las Cruces or El Paso. The Pac2+ knows those can't be the 2. So, I guess you are right....but if it was as easy as inviting 2 teams with NMSU or UTEP's caliber, it would have happened.

Who said UNLV TV numbers were low?

What if I took out Boise's Bowl Games and OOC schedule of Washington, Memphis, and UCF? Looking at the smaller OOC game, do you think Bryant draws more eyes than North Dakota?

This is essentially the same statistical argument that 'Charles Williams is a below average RB if you remove all of his long touchdown runs'. Sure, but aren't those statistical 'outliers' part of the the sample size when you're calculating things like total yards and yards per carry? The Michigan game is doing some heavy lifting in our numbers, but that's what you should get by scheduling a top 5 team on the road, but how much lifting is that game in Seattle doing?

Does the offense wake up this week?

Get them into third and medium, we will win. They don’t convert well. But I feel it’s similar to Kansas … get some pressure, we will win.

Also, any word yet on Sherrod? Gilliam wasn’t strong filling in.
I'll volunteer to watch the Skipper press conference, I guess. He missed last week but I bet he'll be ready for Saturday. It sounded like Saturday was a precaution against a team they could beat in their sleep.

If they add nmsu and utep today, they are getting more money in their tv deal than the MWC.

There aren't really people on this board that thing UNLV carries this market, are there? UNLV could be undefeated for 5 years and less than half of the people would be able to name the coach, quarterback, or conference UNLV is in.

I forgot the rest of my post...

Mikey Keane is improved from last year but he can still be baited into really bad throws. They are a wide open offense. Pressure is key to get Mikey to make bad decisions. If we win the turnover battle I think we win the game. Catalan and Baldwin are primed for 2-3 Ints.

Anyone have word on McDuffie?
Game time decision according to Coach O. He just had press conference.
