The CFP won't matter because no way Odom stays to coach games against teams that just emerged out of D2.Nothing will get the fans fired up more than a home conference slate of Tarelton State, UTEP, New Mexico State, and New Mexico!
Also staying in Conference USA… oops I mean Mountain West does not necessarily give us an easier path to the CFP. If it’s even remotely close the committee will take a team from the PAC or even AAC before UNLV and the MW.
Good luck...Login to view embedded media
PAC doesn’t want to pay the MWC
Yes, but what if the Pac 12 $$ is a load of BS and what you get is essentially the same $$ and MWC schedule but at 18 million dollar cost, plus you get locked in with exit fees that definitely cost you a chance at the Big 12 in 5 years... because you know the Pac isn't going to just let teams walk away when next P4 alignment happensThat's my point.
Yes move to PAC is risky, because of unknowns.
No argument.
But
So is assuming that an invite is inevitable.
Because if it doesn't come....
All this momentum we've gained under Odom is done if stuck in some CUSA/MWC hybrid.
Well, that $30 mill will do wonder then. That’s the problem, their athletic dept is a huge financial mess.
That’s the problem, their athletic dept is a huge financial mess.UNM is another flagship school. They won't be down long. With Bronco and Pitino that program will be respectable if they invest.
You can't grant your rights to someone/thing longer than the contract. Once the contract lapses, the rights are no longer delegable. Therefore......If UNLV signs a GOR rights (To collect this money) would they then be locked into the MWC for a certain length of time?
Gloria's not handing UNLV 30 million dollars to jump ship in two years.

This was WELL after USC and UCLA had announced their Big10 invite/acceptance
My guess would be a 2for... Us and Memphis- UCONN and Gonzaga basketball only... I don't think Tulane carries the profile UNLV and Memphis do. Their football program outside the past few years is similarly mediocre to bad and their basketball program is worse than ours...
I pretty much agree, and that's not the hydroxyzine talking.
How much of this is reported or conjecture? As posted on my board:
"Ok, had my coffee, no new news (yet) on this debacle. So after consulting with insiders and a couple of deities, here's how it went down:
Teresa, who Friday said she was "swinging for the fences", thought she had Memphis, Tulane and who knows who in the AAC in the bag - apparently with a lame $2.5M offer to help with their $20M+ exit fees. Makes me wonder what we offered to the MW traitors in terms of exit fee help. Probably not much. She promised them that we had those schools lined up to form this "super G5" conference. She got played, as did the traitors by believing her.
Teresa F-ed up by not offering UNLV from the get-go. The Pac now holds no cards. UNLV has all the cards. The traitors must be screaming at her voicemail.
If UNLV bolts, we have an "OK" league of 8 teams. At a huge cost.
This Gonzaga talk is BS. We would give them a full share of mostly FB money in exchange for a share of their NCAA BB credits? All this revenue that Gonzaga brings beyond that goes to - Gonzaga. We won't share in their OOC game revenues or home game $ or anything else. NCAA credits are < FB revenues. Absolute stupidity.
Her single-minded desire to keep her job has screwed the pooch.
We should have just pushed the reverse merger from the beginning. Bringing in all of the MW would have been way better than the shitpile we have now.
Even if UNLV bolts, the Pac-2 Presidents need to go back to Gloria, call timeout, and go back to the MW and beg for the full merger. Even if that means we join the MW and lose our future $30M in BB credits. Helluva lot cheaper than what we are looking at now. And whichever way it goes, Gloria become Commissioner and Teresa gets a desk in the corner somewhere.
For 2025, WSU needs to go out and get (not my term) body bag games, starting with Ole Miss to bring in some extra money."

If so by all means take the money and wait it out.
If not we are joining a conference with teams you yourself have just said aren't worth it for the PAC to add.
There is risk in this either way.
What's stopping the BIG 12 from just grabbing Memphis and Tulane instead of us in a few years?
Deeeezzz NUTzzzzzzzWhat's stopping the BIG 12 from just grabbing Memphis and Tulane instead of us in a few years?
Why...
Because neither of those 2 programs is worth it for OSU and WSU and the 4 they sold on creating the best G5 conference in the West. They don't want to travel to El Paso and Las Cruces much like they didn't want to travel to Laramie or ABQ...
The reason why UNLV would be fine with it is the boat load of cash and a short term outlook with the P4 conversation being part of it.. if 10 million minimum guaranteed on top of fees from departures, you could potentially have 30 million in cash. That's a ton of money for a short term downgrade in schedule
This guy knows.Correct. $30M per team offer from ESPN to the remaining 10 after FUSC and FUCLA announced. Thanks to Utah, we thought we were worth $50M and wanted to negotiate. ESPN said F-you, offered about the same to the Big-12 and they snapped it up.
We resent and resemble your snide remark........Enjoy your flights to Las Cruces and El Paso just to save a few bucks in fees... maybe spend a few dollars in the slot machines as you catch those connecting flights in Vegas where you couldve been....
I joke, but thats an ugly possibility for you..

Yeah, I get it, that's why I'm saying it would be a risky move. The PAC is somewhat risky also, depending on how much they're offering UNLV to leave the MWC. Are they offering to pay the full exit fee and penalties? Supposedly they only offered $2.5 million to Memphis, Tulane, etc from the AAC. I haven't seen much stating what the offer has been to UNLV. So we potentially go from getting 30-40 million, plus the money from the current MWC media deal ($4-5 million/year), to jumping into the PAC at a cost of $18 million, plus possibly giving up some of the media money from the MWC (Not sure how that works exactly). So you'd be looking at about 45-60 million dollar 'cost', depending on how everything shakes out.
