Sluka Redshirting and Transferring

If anyone is responsible for our ranking, it's our defense. In my opinion, Sluka had Marion's system limited because of his arm. I can't be the only one here that saw that. I think the players comments at the start of the season about all 3 QB's were spot on. Wish I knew where I could find that again.
You must not have watched the Kansas game. Sure the defense played well, but so did there’s. Sluka won that game with some clutch 3rd down, making something out of nothing plays. Unfortunately he also got a big head about it and is out.

I still am not wrapping my head around how that is even possible with his NIL “contract”.

Sluka Redshirting and Transferring

Absolutely this.

Too many unknowns and rumors less than 24 hours after BUT IF there is a shred of truth I would want the coaching staff to use this as a teaching moment for the entire country.

No need to “keep things internal” when you’ve so publicly been treated as such. Time to salt the earth in front of him and everyone who thinks they’ll come after.
I wish. Odom will keep it classy even though the program was screwed by the Bob Sugar’s of the world. Bob Sugar is a snake!

Moving forward

In the NFL it happens all of the time a veteran QB play’s early in the season the offense limps along and a young QB comes in and gives a spark to that offense. Or injuries lead to QB2 like Tom Brady getting a start to his career. In college Cardale Jones came in late season at OSU, Alabama had the Jalen Hurts/Tua situation.

Not saying UNLV has a GOAT or future Heisman winner in their QB room, but the QB that just quit couldn’t pass. Was he the best QB to go to Kansas and execute the plays called to perfection that night? Absolutely, but the offense was hard to watch.

So now Moving into MWC play will UNLVs offense be given a spark with a change at QB? If nothing else if the offense/team wasn’t motivated enough by what’s in front of them, having their QB1 walk out on them should put a huge chip on their shoulders.

He definitely was not being replaced. Leads the team/program to the first top 25 ranking ever but we’re going to try the other guy!? Huh?

If UNLV's side of the story is true, any school involved in the poaching should be suspended for the rest of the year.
Well, unfortunately, that's the catch in this whole thing. Once agents become involved, it gets messy. If ASU (for example) goes to the NIL agent and says, we'd really like a mobile QB who has led his team to a 3-0 start, and are willing to pay him $XXX if he goes on redshirt and transfers to our school, but doesn't mention him by name, and that message gets relayed to Sluka, is the University at fault? Or at this point, does it even matter if they tell the agent his name and tell them to find out how much he wants? I don't know that there are any rules in place for this whole NIL game.

Unlv & Air Force in contact w/AAC

One question about the payout of the exit fees, poaching fees, etc. - Are conference teams legally allowed to receive those funds after the money is given to the league? Maybe that's why UNLV is waiting to make a decision. Why not take the $$ and use it as our exit fees?

This makes sense to me but is it realistic legally?
The exit fees from the schools leaving aren’t due until the effective date of their departure. However, all media rights payments from departing schools are withheld during the interim period (time they announce until the effective date) to be used to pay those exit fees.

According to what I’ve read in the bylaws those media rights payments are made on June 1st of each year. Right now those 2 payments from the 5 schools are the only somewhat guaranteed money to be paid to the conference.

Everything else will be litigated.

Don't the NIL contracts have language in them to protect the schools/donors from exactly this type of situation? I mean, ultimately it's a contract of sorts, so if you sign it and bail, I would think you'd be subject to lawsuit for breach of contract. Then again, I have no idea how they format this and what sort of rules are in place for NIL since it's such a new deal.

UNLV Exploring Options After USU Joins PAC

If AFA were to come to agreement with AAC tomorrow would you still be in the camp of stay put and take the money?
“Stay and take the money” is no longer an option IMHO, as the conference is no longer worth rebuilding. No matter how large the promise of cash for you to stay ($50million anyone?) there is no guarantee you are even going to see half of that… and to do what? Expand on a conference with SJSU, UNM, WYO, UNR, HI, and AF, with what?

You’d be G5 in name only and you’d be dead with absolutely zero shot at ever being able to make a name for yourself that even warrants invitation to another G5, much less a P4.

No amount of money that’s realistic is worth that.

The only question now is how do you get out without paying $18million?

Air Force and UNLV are the only teams left with any value… which is why they got promised bonuses and a bigger share if they stayed. Both have had interest shown in them by the AAC and the PAC, the extent to which I’m not sure, but even behind the scenes I’m sure it’s there. Both I’m sure have issues paying the exit fees I’m sure as well… we obviously know this with UNLV but I’m sure it has to be the same with a government funded service academy to at least some extent.

So the play is this IMHO…

UNLV and AFA go to the MW and say “look, we feel for you guys, we really do, but it’s over and there ain’t nothing left but the crying. This is not a viable conference as it is and no matter who you want to add isn’t going to make it so. Now we can do this the easy way or we can do this the hard way… waive the conference exit fee for us or we’ll block anyone you try to add (that would be the quiet part that’s implied)… you can continue your collection efforts with the PAC and those other traitors and then you 5 can split the money you collect. That’s an extra 6% of the total settlement to each one of you sorry ass schools.

Once you let us out we’ll announce our intentions and you can get back to building your conference back up with whoever you want and you’ll all have a boatload of cash in reserves… how’s that sound?”

I don’t think the MW can say no.

If I’m UNLV and AFA I stick together and try to leverage a little bit, but honestly not too much, and go as a package deal to either the AAC or PAC. I think the PAC would probably be a better scenario but AAC would be fine as well.

That’s how I see it anyway.

Sluka Redshirting and Transferring

So he didn’t get the $$ he was promised from UNLV then decided to go find $$ elsewhere for next year mid season??

Awesome teammate
If he didn't get the money he was promised, that's one thing. If another college "poaches" him with promises of more money, the NCAA should suspend that university for the rest of the year. At this point, I have no idea of who is right.
