that's because there are a handful of really good coaches and a handful of really nice openings and we still haven't hit the "first weekend of the tournament darling phase". Every nmae you will hear is going to be in that list and frankly its a deep roster that doesnt include the suspects our local media have put out like hiring Lindy, or Brown, etc...

Really depends on who it is. 3 of our top choices in my opinion I think are coaching this week.
I still think that Wade is very unlikely. But what happens if he makes it past the first weekend? I don't think that is impossible. That would probably put the nail in the coffin at that point.
Wade, Olen similar issue. Wade makes it past first weekend he's heading to a bigger job than NCst.. Olen would have his pick as well...
That said, it's a deep bench this year with few P4 openings and lots of good coaches/program builders

I say this to all the “wait and see” tribe on this message board regarding Harper, he knows what he is doing, when it comes to moving on from and hiring new coaches.
Anyone who complains about Harper going forward, has a personal bias or agenda against him!

That's a D- tier hire for me. Don't hire someone who has proven they can't get the job done already.
Now if you wanted to bring him on as an assistant I'd be singing a different song.
Jack Murphy would be a worse hire than Kevin Kruger was 4 years ago.

Otz also had a monster class coming in, I don’t like him at all, but objectively he is a good coach. I think had ISU not opened up so quickly he would have done pretty good here in the MW. Obviously year 2 recruiting was a miss, but that was also Covid year.
yeah, if ISU had been 1 season later and had waited till the end of the season to can their coach, we probably go dancing that year with Bryce, Kaluma, etc... His AD buddy called him in January and told him to start looking for houses and it showed in his game prep
It was well known in CBB that he was going to ISU as soon as the job opened up. Way too many connections. That was one of the worst hires we have ever made. Great coach horrible fit. The AD should of done some research. WE have had eggs on our face way too many times over the years when we go looking for a NEW HC/

He was B12 bound before he landed here. Favors used. Lots of them.
Research for the AD? There didn’t need to be any. There was no search. This is the way it was going to be so a few people could reap rewards.

At the time of hiring, this wasn't well known, and not talked about much.
Truth is a majority of Rebel fans didn't like the hire because he wasn't good enough. This wasn't like Beard where we though he could be poached quickly, at least it wasn't talked about.
But fans thought because he wasn't Pitino, or Thad Matta, that he was a terrible hire. Well his success speaks for itself. Dude can coach. I also believe if he had that 3rd year here he would have done really well. Which seemed to be the plan, even on his side. He certainly set himself up for a good 3rd year. So I think even he was surprised about getting the ISU job so early.
And if that would have happened, we would be in a better place. Easier to come in after a successful season that not.
And we were able to flip his contract for 3+ million dollars, I wouldn't say it was the worst hire.
Yeah, and the second part of this is that he told DRF a week before leaving publicly despite knowing he was leaving for the job that he wasnt and that stuck us with Kevin. She had 0 interest in running a comprehensive search and I dont think she had relationships in the sport to drive us to the right hire. I think thats where Lon stepped in and advocated for his son and Kevin was hired rather quickly. She was embarrassed by Otz leaving.
Otz, Beard we have had some decent coaches post Tark unfortunately they only had a cup of coffee here. But we served full meals to KK, Marvin…
It was 1000% was well known that he was leaving. I posted a couple of articles about the local media talking about it when he was hired. He was best friends with the AD. His wife was a legend there. He was a assistant coach there. ALL SIGNS pointed to him going there. Why else would they hire him with the crappy record he had here??
He definitely can coach but there plenty of people who were positive on the hire, plenty who were negative and plenty who were negative only because they knew he would leave first chance he got for ISU. There was no consensus. I was wait and see on that one myself.
In fairness, I don't think anyone thought the wheels on Prohm's bus were going to fall off that quickly--but there was definitely smoke there after that 12-20 season.
He wasn’t staying here, never intended on staying here, was always going to go to B12. UNLV was a very convenient stopping ground, there was enough to grease the necessary moves. He ended up in a better spot, so did DRF, and so did KK … which of those three did such a good job that they elevate far above what their previous performance showed. She had Arroyo under her belt and Otz. KK had a little asst coaching. Otz had a failure at UNLV.
Some know how to slickly move behind the scenes. And UNLV … I said this way before that non-sense occurred, is the drunk girl that was slipped rohypnol. UNLV is known as an easy target.
He’s the first coach in UNLV history that failed upward, and dramatically at that. He was below 500 here and then he goes on to a power conference. He was bad here, but gets a prime job?

The year before the were a top 25 team half the year and a 6 seed. The year before that he was brutal 13-18, but the two years before that he was top 25 all season and made a sweet sixteen and a round of 32. There were warning signs but at the time TJ took the job he looked like he was probably going to be okay. I think if anyone thought that it wasn't TJ would have stayed put.
If he had stayed between Gilbert and Jefferson I am sure he would have done well here but he obviously had a foot out the door so...

I think I'm a little confused, I was talking about the position when TJ was interviewing and took the job, you're talking about the year Prohm was fired in 20-21. When Otz interviewed here Prohm was coming off a good year which is why I figured TJ wasn't thinking about ISU as an 'open position'. After 19-20, he was certainly getting hot in the seat but I think most people got a covid coaching get out of jail free card. It was the season after that 20-21 where he screwed the pooch.
So I think we're both right, I just think we're not talking about the same point of reference.
