I don't like bash them and I think we as fans throw our own players under the bus too often, so that isn't my intent here. But I will say we have a lot of good "Beta" types who are capable, but we have a leadership void. Our most capable players don't seem capable of leading on the floor, either due to a lack of the "alpha" in them, or lack of overall basketball IQ. I seriously don't think anyone we have is even built for leadership in tough situations (consistently), except maybe Carter, but you need guards to take that mantle on in college basketball.
Even before tonight, I have been thinking a total complete reset is needed next year - whole new staff. Whoever transfers is fine, can't worry about that or losing recruiting classes. The reason is - I now question if we are even recruiting the right types of players. Whatever this staff has been prioritizing in recruiting, it clearly isn't what is needed to be a contender in this league. We make fun of SDSU's wings n things approach, but you can't score on them, and even though they can't score... they are disciplined enough to stay within their strengths, and for tonight, exploit our team's defensive weaknesses.
