UNLV Top 25 Ranking?

So far the combined Massey ratings have dropped UNLV 4 spots, and they have a handful of 5-5 teams passing by UNLV. No doubt how they will make sure only one lower level football program ever gets into the playoffs.

For any ESPN+/Insider subscribers. Author is Heather Dinich. Projected CFP rankings (of note):

12 BSU
13 BYU
21 Army
22 Tulane
23 UNLV
Heather is pretty cute. Not beautiful, but certainly doable.

Congrats on leapfrogging my Cougs and being ranked. Too f-ing bad we didn't play you guys this year. Although the overflow crowd of 14,000 and change at NM last night must have been a thing to behold..... :)

I was at the NM Bowl when you guys Couged it with CSU. Has WSU won on that field?

The last time we were ranked we lost to Syracuse. We've got to finish this season with no more losses.
Which raises an interesting question. Would you rather make the CCG, but lose to Boise St. again, but then go on to win our Bowl Game and finish the season 11-3. Or miss out on the CCG, but go on to win our Bowl Game and finish the season 11-2 and still ranked?

100% the first option. Back to back MWC CCG’s is huge. Plus, assuming Boise wins out, losing in the CCG results in an LA Bowl appearance. That’s the best bowl we can make short of making the CFP.

The CCG would give us our best chance to the CFP. Best chance best reward.

We will probably play USC at SoFi, it’ll be packed with SC fans.

Thats the first selection for MWC teams. We can make better bowl games by being in non-affiliated games (where both sides arent tied into a conference) , or when a power conference doesn't fulfill its allotment of teams.

But without extracurricular, yeah LA Bowl should be the highest paying bowl

On the other side, I wouldn't want to see the reward being playing a mediocre team like USC in a bowl game.
Reading into last season, does being picked for a bowl “above our weight,” so to speak, mean that there is some interest to build our program into a national brand? I don’t mean from UNLV’s standpoint, I mean from a tv standpoint.

Or I’m overthinking that.

That would be awesome!
There’s also the possibility we play some where else that has zero MWC tie in. Last year we were lucky to be going to mortgage rate bowl in Phx, usually that is reserved for the Big12 and BigTen.

Keep an eye on the Sun Bowl or Holiday Bowl. There’s a possibility the P12 and its former members can’t meet eligibility requirements.
