Hawaii was scrapping early but we pushed it up to double digits. I am really enjoying watching this team play this year although the competition has been iffy at best.

In the past UNLV would have dropped one or two of these games. The competition picks up a little this weekend though!

Great atmosphere! Would love to see us pack this place again and make it a rodeo tradition
I couldn't make it out, but I have been there for IFL games and the UNLV hockey vs Alaska game. I think its a great little venue.

I strongly prefer this for UNLV over T Mobile and MGM. Probably over the Orleans Arena, too.

Has anyone used the YouTube chat room? Winky’s mom was posting!!

OldSchoolReb, RebelHomer, XfactorRebel!!

It was dope.

They seemed tall
They play the same way we play. The Rebs just could not knock down any shot like they usually do. It looks like initially that they were taking it easy on Hawaii until they have to..by that time, Hawaii already think they can hang.

Unlv looked great first half and bad second half. Hawaii figured out the pass to the corner is wide open vs rebels. If Hawaii would have made a bunch of those shots we would have been in trouble.

Should have made my comment about this topic in this thread. In short, I agree 100%. Coach Kruger might also agree.
Let's be honest. Without Tark UNLV would never have dreamed of building a basketball arena capable of holding 18,000 fans. Maybe 12,000 tops.

It has only been the last 5-10 years that the attendance has tanked.
1990 attendance 17,859
1995 8,883
2000 11,829
2005 11,383
2010 13,917 Kruger was coach - If you remove the holiday season games it would have been 15K plus
2015 11,757 Dave Rice
2016 11,542 Dave Rice - final season
2017 10,120 Menzies took over and there was an immediate drop off
2018 10,093 Menzies
2019 8.639 Menzies 48-48 overall record
2020 8,218 TJ Otzelberger - did nothing to fix the problem and 29-30 overall record
2021 not provided Kruger - This is the 2020-2021 season in which they limited the game attendance COVID
2022 4,917 Kruger took over - the damage was done through the last two coaches and COVID restrictions

Prior to TJ and Menzies putting UNLV at the bottom of the conference they averaged about 12K per game only about 5-6 seasons ago.

A stadium with 12K seats tops means that outside of the holiday season, when the crowds drop off by as much as 50%, they would have had to turn away a couple of thousand to most of the games. If Kruger continues to win games and the crowds do not slowly start to return, then there is a major problem, but this has only been since Menzies destroyed the program that attendance has plummeted, along with the COVID restrictions that made things even worse.

If UNLV can fix the football program and the basketball programs continues to play well, we will end up either in the Pac12 or the Big12 where expectations would be much higher and the need for a large stadium of more importance to the future of the program. A better schedule in a better conference can do wonders for attendance, in comparison to playing a weak schedule and losing half of the games as the past two coaches did while at UNLV.

Within a few short years there will be both a Hockey team and an NBA team here. I can only think of two cities - N.Y. ( St. Johns) and Washington D.C. ( Georgetown) that can support their winter pro teams and their college teams in large venues.

The really large basketball arenas ( Syracuse, Louisville, N.C., Kentucky etc) have zero professional competition.

The landscape has changed and I don't think there will be many years that we will turn people away from a 12,000-seat stadium. Any coach that is successful enough to fill it will be gone - just like Beard was gone from Little Rock after his second year. Then we'll be back to 6,000 paid for most games.

My take is that if you guys continue to improve in basketball and football and end up in the PAC12 (not decimated by the Big 12 and Big10) or Big12, you will have enough excitement and visiting opposing team's fans to fill the stadiums/arenas, even with professional sports. That money will be enough to hold onto many coaches. Utah rose to the next level and I believe that you can.

With that kind of thinking then the Rebels should just join the Big West and start playing their games in Cox Pavilion.

You want seats very close to the action. Seating more vertical. If it gets sold out occasionally that's o.k. - starts a vibe. ( gold is valued because there isn't much of it) Below are pics of Gonzaga and Duke. I don't think 6,000 or 9000 seats would be enough for us but I like the architecture. Opponents need to feel the heat of the crowd and that only happens at the MAC with 15000 plus. And we haven't had that consistently since Tark ( remember there is a difference between announced attendance and actual buts in seats) It's all about intensity.

I wish there was a way for the arena to open up lower bowl seats at some point in the game they aren't being used. I'm not sure what that would look like, but maybe at half time, allow people from upstairs to come down and fill the bowl seats that aren't being used, if they want. Again, not exactly sure what that would look like, but it would certainly make the crowd bigger and closer for the 2nd half, when you need it the most.

That happens now. The ushers at the doors don't prevent the upper attendees from moving down after the half. But - some people may feel resentment if they paid $150+ for a seat and next to them is someone who paid $ 6. I am a $6 dollar attendee and I don't move down out of respect for those who paid the higher rate.

I totally get it. But if it was more "encouraged" by UNLV in order to fill the bowl, maybe it would be more accepted for the people that paid the higher dollars. In the end, if the lower bowl is already full, then there would be nowhere for the upper bowl people to go anyways, so it wouldn't be an issue.

Just trying to think of how we might be able to get a better feel in the T&M. Ideally we just get more people to the games, but for games when the numbers are lower, I'd love to see them pack it in the lower bowl.

One of the huge problems with the people that move down into the lower seats, which happens a lot at football games (Sam Boyd), many times it turns into a fight to remove people who moved down into your seats.

I'm one of those "movers" but I'd never stay in someone's seat if its rightfully theirs. Look left, look right, there are normally hundreds more.

Most season ticket holders will sit a few seats away unless those people come to occupy those seats. I’ve pointed it out to whoever was in my seats, in case I have to move later, but I have never made a big deal about it. It’s not like we are shoulder-to-shoulder lately.

Kruger seems like he would be a lifer here if he got the program back again
Not. It's all Kruger-talk. We'll never be able to match a P-5 team in pay if they really want him. But he'll go no matter what we pay. He's young and he'll want to test himself in a conference that offers easier NCAA appearances and easier recruiting. A National Championship is almost impossible from G-5. Tark did it, but times are different.

I am thinking UNLV will be able to offer Kevin a very nice and competitive salary if he starts to do very well while here.
