Being 2-1 and being seen as competitive with the program headed in the right direction makes it a whole lot easier for people to consider UNLV for the Pac 12. I know in the end sometimes winning and being competitive takes a back seat to things like market size, TV numbers, etc...(ex: Rutgers) But that is always the knock on UNLV when being mentioned for an expansion candidate, yeah they have top 40 market size and still growing with an exciting city of Vegas but they don't win and haven't been competitive for years! If we could have a winning season and go bowling it sure makes it a little easier for us to be seriously considered for the Pac 12. What do you guys say? Do you think the writer of this article is correct? Do you think George is definitely expanding the conference but is not showing his cards just yet? Man I can only hope we get an invite and get the hell out off the Mountain West!!
Completely agree with what the school has to offer outside of football. Location, Med school, Stadium, facilities, tv market, etc. If football can contribute too, they’d shoot to the top of the list IMO, however realignment would likely occur before football could show that they are competitive on a consistent basis. That part would be a “projection” on the conference’s part. Hopefully we can win 8+ this year to show that we are at least getting there.
Also, the fact that Las Vegas host both the PAC 12 football championship game and the PAC 12 basketball tourney can’t be overlooked. That is huge. Also, UNLV fits in culturally very well with the PAC schools.
