UConn hires Mora

Could have been. Are we sure it would have been all that much better though?

Looking at it, he put his name out there for a lot of jobs..

He ended up at UConn.

Looks like their weren't a lot of suitors for his services.

It very well could work out. He might get that program going.

But from UCLA to UNLV/Uconn is a pretty big fall from grace..

His head coaching path/trajectory has been weird.

You could make arguments he's been good and that he sucks.

So he's probably somewhere in the middle.

Yes Sir! Wanted the UNLV job and perfect for the job.
We have never been a winner in football other than a few blimps here and there so if a guy like Mora jr. wants the job you give the man a shot! I always thought the only way we can get UNLV good in football is to hire a veteran coach who was a winner at the group of 5 and then had success at a power 5 school but was fired cause there expectations were to high (10+ wins every year or your out type of stuff!)

He wanted any job. He thought he had an in with Desiree from previous relationship. He would have taken anything.

Have heard he rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

There have been a lot of jobs open since he got ousted from UCLA.

I don't know..He would have been a good hire for UNLV based on resume.

Would he have been a good hire long or even short term..

I'm not so sure..

The problem with his UCLA tenure is it trended the wrong way.

I'd have been fine with him getting the job here.

But I think there is something telling that he ended up at UConn. (I guess you could say the same thing if he landed here).

There have been a number of jobs open since he left UCLA. People haven't exactly been knocking down his door, as evidenced by UNLV and UConn being the two main jobs he's been linked.

With UNLV’s condition, I’m all for experience over success … experience in running a program, a department, working boosters, etc. Someone who bites off what they can chew.

Like I said, not anti-Mora.

Just pointing out he wasn't exactly fending off suitors for his services.

During the coaching "search" two years ago I was pulling for Todd Graham, but after watching what he has turned Hawaii into last night I'm not sure that "retreads" like Graham (or Mora) are any surer bet than ambitious "up and coming" coaches. It depends on the coach.

I'm still undecided on Arroyo, but we need him to succeed. My biggest beef with the way the hiring process worked out is that our AD most likely overpaid (and included no performance conditions) for a coordinator that had risen up only two years earlier and appeared to have questionable job security at Oregon. Arroyo did really well at assembly a staff (three assistants were poached by P5 programs after his winless first season).

Mora seems like an odd dude, similar to former UNR coach Brian Polian in ways like who his father was had a lot to do with how he got many of his job opportunities. It can't be an accident that he has been available for four years.

Home and home vs UConn is needed for this program. Everyone knows both teamssuck and would tune in..

A lot of jobs have been open between the P5 and G5 the last few years.

That he ended up at Uconn (and was at least considered here) kind of backs up what you are saying.

A guy coaches long enough you can pick apart his resume ( outside of the Saban, Jimbo types ) to some degree.

Mora seems to wear out his welcome pretty quick wherever he's been.

If you are going to go against powerhouse programs, add the SEC (Vanderbilt) and the Big 12 (Kansas) and we get to 10 games! All things aside, the schedule for UNLV will be much easier next season, which could very well give them the break out season they need!

I’ll say what you wanted to say. “I know most people hate this guy.“. He’s an Ass who would have won maybe 4-5 games more than Arroyo and would have left after season 1 or 2. He’s damaged good. Arroyo is probably not the guy, but neither is Jr.

In my quest to not speak in absolutes and fence sit as much as possible so things never come back to haunt me...

Yes, that is exactly what I was saying by kinda not saying it, but implying it just enough..
