Top 25 tomorrow

I like the thought, I'm just not convinced that #20ish UNLV beating #11ish BSU would jump #16ish Tulane beating theoretical 11-1 Army. Possible, just wouldn't want to bank on it
Yes, in the CFP rankings it absolutely would. Remember, they're looking at body of work as a selection committee. If UNLV adds a top 10 road win as a conference champion with 2 P4 road wins that's a more impressive resume than Tulane losing to both it's P4 opponents. In fact I anticipate that if it's UNLV vs Boise in the final, the CFP rankings the week leading up to that will jump UNLV ahead of Tulane. Tulane is ranked based on shear volume of consecutive wins, but they have a weak resume.

I really don't think we have much to worry about with other teams, as I believe we control our own destiny, assuming Boise wins next week.

If we were to beat Boise on the road in the MW conference game, that would be the best G5 win in all of the contenders. It would be against a potential top 10 team at the time, and a win against someone in the final CFP rankings, which I believe would be something that Tulane or Army could not say.

Just win baby.

I guess you're just happy with mediocrity on offense!

I wouldn't put that kind of faith in any group of selectors. I agree (UNLV beating BSU in MWC CCG) should warrant the jump. I'm just not sold that those folks will see it that way.

So you're telling me that you would have UNLV (currently 21) ahead of Tulane (currently 18) if both beat their final opponent in the regular season? You don't think the committee will look at Memphis as a far greater win than Reno? I agree with your thought, but I don't think there's much consistency with that and how these committee have worked over the years

Edit: clarity in first sentence

Just for the sake of it now that the Coaches Poll is in:

BSU 11
Tulane 18
UNLV 21
Army 22
Memphis 23

If UNLV beats #10 Boise on the road they would leapfrog Tulane. (I think).

Happy to wrong, but I won't get my hopes up. If Memphis and Army are ranked when Tulane plays them, I'll continue to be skeptical. Best Rebs can do is win. If Tulane wants to help and drop one, then my skepticism will melt away entirely

Definitely not saying you're wrong.

I just think beating a top 10 Boise State on the road would carry a lot of weight.

But yes, definitely go Tigers next week.

But then would that put Memphis in the mix?

Memphis won't be ranked. Tulane at best is only 2 spots higher in the rankings than UNLV. A top 10 road win would be enough in voters minds to jump them. Then you have SOS for the CFP committee looking at body of work and UNLVs 2 P4 road wins are better than Tulanes 2 P4 losses

Memphis can't win the American, which is wonderful lol

AP rankings of note:

BSU 11
Tulane 18
UNLV 21
Army 25

Memphis is 2nd in others receiving (27th)

This weeks CFP will be super interesting!

Kinda funny, Tulane having a bye this late in the year is great for their health and recovery, but awful for being on the mind and having a win at this point in the year

I'm not as optimistic. I'm thinking 22. Those bastards.
I don't understand why people are discounting the CFP committee... "those bastards"... what did they do to UNLV and why would they benefit by not being fair to UNLV vs any other G5 program... come on

I should have put a smiley face at the end :). But, I still think it will be 22.

My concern is brand equity. We are in year 2 of UNLV not being a national embarrassment.

Tulane isn't some school with an unbelievable history, but it does have like 6 straight bowl years in a conference that has recently turned over its best teams to the P4.

Tulane has absolutely no business being ranked ahead of us they beat absolutely nobody.
Other than UNLV, who has Boise beaten? Their claim to fame this year is a close loss to Oregon. It's say if they played Oregon now, it wouldn't be as close

THis does bring a point that no one is talking about.

Boise hasn't looked great since playing us. Struggled to beat some mediocre to bad teams, including Wyoming this past week.

Are they overrated? Maybe, but we want it that way. I bring it up just to say that I think we have a good chance to pull off the upset if we were to meet in the CG.

Yeah I was 100% certain they would beat us when we played them but now I like us in the upset. They haven’t looked as good since our game and they have beaten Jeanty into the ground.

We'll have to protect our QB better. They made acquaintances with him too often. He became very quick to run after a few sacks.
This is the key. We could not stop their pass rush, but Boise has been maybe the only team to give us that much trouble. If we can counter this, I think we can definitely move the ball better. Maybe more screens.

In our defense, wasn’t de Jesus out for that game? He’d be an ideal target for screens.
Yes. He was out and not returning kicks or catching passes. I seen people out there(cough, cough Boise fans) talking like this wasn't a 5 point loss but alot more. Hajj doesn't throw a dumb Int before half time and we might not be talking about this.

Thank you all for the responses.

@Masked_rebel I agree. It's not like we got blown out. We showed that we belong.

While we may not beat Ohio State, Texas, or Oregon this year, we wouldn't get embarrassed as we would have just 2 years ago.
To win we would need a couple of pick sixes and a couple of opportune fumble recoveries. But it's not like this stuff hasn't happened before. I think we should definitely show up and give it a shot.

The Boise State style of losing close to a major program, but in the case of BSU they played the #1 team close, while I believe both teams Tulane played are no longer ranked? UNLV has played and beat much better teams, and the two loses by UNLV by 4 and in OT are to much better programs!
