We have debates as to pure point vs. scoring point guard. IMO it really comes down to the system and what a particular coach is comfortable with. But there appears to be consistency with some of the good coaches and it appears when they find the point guard for their system they stick with them. At UNLV Oscar Bellfield under Lon Kruger started 21 games as a freshman and continued to start at the pg the rest career at UNLV. Similarly at Oklahoma junior point guard Jordan Woodard is a 3 year starter. Out of curiosity I checked the Pitt roster and discovered Pitt senior point guard James Robinson who led the ACC in assist and with a very high 3 to 1 a/to as a junior is a 4 year starter for Jamie Dixon.
IMO who ever is ultimately hired the UNLV head coach the no. 1 priority should be to retain the assistant coach who recruited Jaylen Fisher and make sure he honors his commitment to UNLV. That has to be the no.1 priority. Also, I understand the importance of bringing back as many of the current players as possible. But JF is a big priority because he has the potential to be a 4 year starter at point that is the foundation for long term success.
