Just the name Robert Smith brings tears to my eyes. He was the point guard on the greatest Rebel team ever. 1977…It should have been us. An unbelievable historical team that was “this” close to immortality. Led by Robert Smith. He would get the outlet pass and quickly rush down the middle of the court. Gondo or Theus on one side…Sudden Sam or Tony Smith on the other. If they were covered, he would simple abruptly stop, and pop from the top of the key. He was amazing.. 90% free throw shooter.. In the biggest Convention Center game EVER, he hit the biggest shots down the stretch in an exhilarating 99-96 win vs Louisville. I could go on… but the point is… HE means a lot to us oldtimers. I will have tears in my eyes at the Jersey retirement today. He is a special guy, from a special era. God Bless the great Robert Smith..#10…
