baxter, poyser, and morgan all 4 star / 5 star recruits. i know stars dont mean everything, but i think if either of the bigs are close to serviceable, this team can be competative in the conference, no?
Go Rebels!
Fans will be fans, they'll be all over the place. You'll see Kool Aid drinking and you'll see unforgiving hate mongers.Wow, drinking some koolaid! Upside is 12 wins. More likely between 6-10. This is a bad team without a PG or proven big. Some decent wing players, but that's about it. My fear is that the Rebel Fans expect 15-18 wins and unfairly go after MM after the season. This is a throwaway season.
How the CDR firing was handles put the Rebels back 2-3 years. MM gets a chance to recruit a decent team for next year, but too young. The 3rd year of MM is when we can expect a winning record. Year 4 is when to start thinking Tournament. But, knowing this outfit, MM will get fired after year 3 and time to start over!
No size, no point guard, very limited depth (it appears there's a rather sharp drop off in talent)... it's going to come into play big time. I think 6-10 wins is way short... but I do think expecting 18 wins is setting yourself up for disappointment.
In terms of regular season D1 wins, I'd think a good O/U number would be 14.5

UNLV hasn't been strong with point guards since Tark. I thought Dickel became a very good college point guard. And though I wasn't crazy about his tunnel vision, Marcus Banks was an extreme talent at point guard.I've gotta say, I don't understand the PG dilemma. Not just for this season (actually this is the year that's most understandable, given the late start), but virtually every year since Tark left. He knew very well the value of a quality player at the point. Mark Wade never took a shot. Opponents could virtually play five-on-four defense, but it was worth it to have a floor general with Wade's ability to set his teammates up in places where they could succeed.
When have we had a great PG since then? We nearly had one with Williams-Goss. but he got away. Are they really that scarce? Players with size are understandably difficult to find, But we're talking about the smallest guy on the floor.
We will never find our way back to the Promised Land until we field a complete team.
