Tamper

Thankful for what he did while he was here but this is a sign he won’t be at Purdue to long if he is trying to poach UNLV guys. His NIL budget there should be more than enough to get guys there from other places.

Having said all that, report him, no doubt!

Purdue will finish with 4 wins... I love what the guys did for us at UNLV, but they failed to perform against Boise and Boise isn't even close to half the Big 10 teams. Reality is going to hit hard for the departures, especially anyone on our defensive front 7 who could barely get pressure on MWC QBs...

I believe he knows he'll be in deep doodoo. But he did it for the cash. And he can't be blamed for that. But he can be blamed for tampering.

It was highly unprofessional to negotiate with Purdue at the very same time UNLV was playing its biggest game ever and a spot in the college football playoffs. Distraction would be an understatement.
I couldn't agree more. Hard to preach family, unity, team one minute then out the back door the next. Dog eat dog world out there.......

I got a little push back from folks when I said he was a liar and I no longer believed anything he said after straight up saying he wasn't just looking for a paycheck then leaving for one the next year. Lost all credibility on those fronts to me. At least be honest and say, yes, I'm willing to listen to jobs, Im happy where I am but sometimes you get life changing opportunity and you listen or some BS rather than a weave about "I've never been a paycheck jumper for jobs"...so yeah, great job here, thanks, but I hope Purdue is awful

On a midly related topic, Brad used to DM with several UNLV X accounts and tell them who was visiting, who committed, why they werent taking certain kids, and even talked about some conversations with parents. What Director of Player Personnel gives these kinds of scoops to random anonymous UNLV X accounts?
The way Brad handled the situation with Maiva was jacked up. Making him take a weird photo on campus. Looked as if JM was a hostage. That guy was a weirdo and that’s just one instance.

I’m glad we have Mullen and Co, a real upgrade over the previous regime. The way Odom left and how he handled Championship week and now tampering our guys makes me think Odom is a giant POS that puts up a front that he’s Mr. integrity and hard worker etc. it’s all BS.

The game verse BSU was huge, but Odom put it second fiddle to his interview with Purdue. That was classless!

At some point, Odom will have a lot more sleepless nights than you and I. This will probably start happening when he is retired, after failing at Purdue despite tampering and leaving his true legacy behind in Vegas. He loses in the end. Trust me.

The coaches don’t normally make contact with the kids. All the kids have agents or representatives that are constantly shopping the kids. When they shop them to Purdue they let it be known they will give them this much if they enter the portal. The kid then enters the portal and evaluates all the offers the representatives got. Therefore it is semantics but the schools don’t officially tamper.

Case in point, how would you feel if Mullen and company are doing something to try to get a player from say Florida here?

It works both ways. I don't if we are doing the same crap as everyone else or not. But the "tampering" semantics or not seem to be universal.

Either way the current system sucks. There needs to be some sort of structure or restrictions. I don't know if there a single program out there that is actually happy with how things work these days.

I posted this on the Purdue forum. It’s pending approval from a moderator aka they’ll never see it.

“Barry’s never won a bowl game, career .500 coach, never defeated a top 25 program and so on.

Good luck folks. Thanks for the buyout money so we can upgrade to a real HC with a substantial resume. Maybe now we can win a championship with our HC preparing for his opponent instead of interviewing and negotiating a contract with another school.”

Bottom line here. If my Coach says it's tampering then it's tampering! BO took us to a bowl game but never coached in it and left us with an image of a snake oil salesman. That unfortunately is the image he created Rebel Red to Boiler Up in 24 hours. Could have been remembered fondly just botched the exit. Fanaticism is what makes these sites fun!

It wouldn't give me a single sleepless night!

Barry is in it now, there are no places to hide on that schedule in the B1G and he will be gone in 2 years when the next “up and comer” is identified for the head coaching job. If he’s poaching UNLV regularly now, he is coming up short on the recruiting trail.

Correa was good on the MWC level but he has some catching up to do to be on the B1G level, not saying he can’t get there because I think he can but he will be learning on the job while getting “boat raced by Ohio St, Penn St, Michigan and Wisconsin.

A couple of guys I wanted UNLV to keep were Correa and Camac, but I think Mullen has their replacements already in mind!

If he leaves Purdue with 30 million from his buyout...

I'd like to lose like that.

This is the way things are right now. Coaches don't need to tamper, coaches let the NIL collectives know what they're looking for and set the rates then the NIL collectives deal with agents who are working for their clients--and because they are taking 30-40% as opposed to a normal sports agents 5-20% they hustle and make things happen. And if you're not a guaranteed NFL guy, getting into a P4 school with a larger NIL contract and bigger revenue sharing then you'd be dumb not to do so. This is capitalism in action without any regulation to protect anyone--I think we'd all prefer a little more rules right now than the wild, wild, west we're getting, but until those get into place what we're going to see is that the rich will get richer and will find every loophole they can to get around any kind of repercussions. And I'm sure we're playing as much of the same hand as we can whenever we can.

I don't like this version of collegiate athletics, but it's what we've got and right now the power conferences hold all the power over the system and the regulatory bodies that are supposed to protect against unfair practices. I'm not mad at Odom, or Correa, or anyone else. This is what's being served, so season it with your tears and take a big bite or walk away from the table.

I think the kids used to say don't hate the player, hate the game.

I wasnt on social media or here when the Maiva situation occurred, but I was sent the picture and it definitely looked like Maiva agreed after some begging occurred. You are 100% correct in your assessment of him being a weirdo.

I have another story to tell; He was talking about a recruit that they whiffed on and said that he wasn't a take at UNLV because of his grades. Said a little more than that after, but I dont need to quote him exactly because I dont want to bring down the recruit. Anywho, the recruit decided to commit and play elsewhere last year. He is now signed to Purdue as a transfer. If only him and his family knew everything Mr. Brad was saying during his high school recruitment process...

Is there anything on Timir now that the other LB is in the fold? Is Timir still here or did he leave on the first thing smoking today…

Can’t be good for the Purdue program, if he couldn’t make the grade at UNLV….

Conversely if they did not like this recruit then they must be desperate. Either way it’s not good over there.

The fact that he had t poach Correa this late instead of at the end of next year, tells the story… Odom is not settled as far as his recruits go, especially at LB. Remember he is playing Saturday’s in the B1G not against Laramie, Albuquerque or Colorado Springs.

If recruiting is not top notch, Purdue will be exposed early and often and Odom will be on the “hot” seat by his second year!

Cignetti rode a bunch of JMU players to the playoffs.

Remember Barry also took his fair share of Arkansas players with him to UNLV.

It sucks, but part of business. I am not going to villainize Barry, at least not yet. He is playing the game. He did that here and led us to maybe the best 2 year stretch in history and his success got us Mullen who would not be here if Barry didn't show it was possible here.

Cignetti had the softest schedule in football and like Barry, got exposed vs talent. Against Notre Dame and Ohio State they got blown out and couldn’t control the LOS at all. Cignetti is 4-3 in Division 1 playoffs, 6-5 in D2 playoffs. 0-1 in CFP. Pretty mid once he goes up against someone with more talent.

But at least Cignetti wins on the regular, usually good for 8-10 wins. Barry is a career .500 coach that’s never beaten a top 25 team, never won a bowl game, 0-3 vs Boise State. A resume of getting exposed in big games.

Again, I thank Purdue for throwing a big bag in front of the Odoms and paid unlv, enabled us to get a better coach. We’re much better off.

Not exactly the same we aren’t in a position to “take” players from Arkansas. They were leaving anyway or they were on the bench going nowhere and we promised them PT. That isn’t the same as Correa.

But Cignetti did it, soft schedule or not. Luck of the draw? Sure, but it shows it is possible.

We are better off because of Barry. He took a program to heights that no one else could, not even a HOF coach. He at least can be a program builder. Will he take Purdue to the playoffs? Most likely not, will he take them to a competitive middle of the B10, get bowl eligible? I think he will. He did that in a tougher SEC.

It’s not likely to happen given Purdue’s schedule this upcoming season. If the expectations are that Barry will turn it around like Cignetti, people will be in for a rude awakening. I see maybe 3 wins on that schedule and if Purdue cannot win the first couple games, they are in deep doo doo.
