At the end he came off the field next to Colandrea and dude looked like a 16 year old midget next to Orgi. Should be interesting how it plays out.
Also regarding Orji; don't get too excited. He couldn't throw a rock into the ocean. He's made me thousands the last couple of seasons on his passing unders.
One challenge we had last year was our inability to get the ball across the goal line. Even if he was used in those type of situations, he will still contribute a lot. Hope that his passing ability will improve due to good coaching.
Hope is Mullen who made Tebow a serviceable passer at Florida can replicate it with Orji.
Personally, Id like for Orji to be used in goal line and short yardage situations. No trick plays please, just run forward!
If he doesn't win job he'll still be utilized is my guess. Red Zone / Goal line / Short Yardage stuff.
He's built like Tebow was... I'm really excited to see how we utilize or which QB ends up starting

He’s listed as 235 on the spring roster. There’s no way he’s the same weight as Jackson Woodard.

I know the downside for him has always been his passing game ability at Michigan... But man, if he can figure out how to make the passing game work within his capabilities hes going to be on some lists by the end of the season. We've seen some ok QBs in the MWC, Hes just built athletically different from any QB we've seen in the MWC lately. And given Mullens QB whisperer background along with our QB coaches background developing 1st round picks from athletes built like this there are so many opportunities to have him develop into a real threat outside the gimmicks he was used for at Michigan.
I can definitely see why they think it is worth taking a chance on him especially given the history of both Mullen and Dennis.
He's built like Johnny Stanton, the MWC saw that. Didn't quite transfer into success.
On a side note, it's funny that 2 of our recent QBs made NFL rosters at FB and TE.
If you listen to Mullen's interviews. He basically straight said he was misused at Michigan. Which is a bold thing to say, especially in this day in age. It definitely seems like he thinks he can turn him into a very good college QB.
He also makes sure to talk about Colandrea too, he is often not talked about because he wasn't as big of a name.
Not sure who gets the nod in the fall. But it is cool to hear that Mullen is optimistic about both.
If I had to guess right now, I'd say Colandrea will win the starter spot, as they continue to work with Orgy to develop him. They give Orgy a percentage of snaps during the games with a limited offensive set, and see how he does with it. Certain packages designed specifically for him.
That being said, if things click for Orgy in spring ball and/or summer workouts, he could be a beast.
At the very least I think we will see Orji get a few sets, even if Colandrea is the starter. Like the Chris Leak/Tebow year.
Whats crazy is Sluka is a better passer than Orji. Obviously Mullen is leaps and bounds above our former offensive play caller in terms of developing. Just thought it was funny.
I think that was part of the problem at UM. Everyone knew when he came in, he'd be running the ball. It has to be him running an entire series, as a change of pace to the offense or to exploit something. If teams know hes coming in on a 3rd and short, its obvious whats about to happen and that is why things didnt work well at UM, in addition to not developing well in the passing game.
But if he works on that last sentence during spring and summer... thats a scary combination
Exactly. He doesn't need to throw for 3,000 yards. He just needs to be effective enough so that the defense respects that he may throw the ball, and not stack the defense for a run only situation.
What year is Orji?
If he has two years with Mullen and the OC, that could really help his development a lot.

With the size of his legs, I would think he is a running back. I can see him running right over DB's in the MWC compared to the BIG.
Does anyone really know how much eligibility players get these days? Some of these college players have been around for 7-8 years.
