If UNLV only has 1.7-2.8 for certain coaches then DRF messed up saying she could get the coach to be the highest paid in MWC.

Did she have Matta or someone else lined up and it fell through? Big overplay if she did.

I agree this search is about DRF her agenda. I think TJ will be an upgrade over MM, but his type of higher could have been made next year after giving MM a chance with a decent set of returners. However, it lets her have her people and a high profile hire for her resume. For known reasons she could not do that with football. Plus, basketball has a chance to improve quicker than football.

One thing I will say is this will not help donations so if she had gone With Mike Miller that would have been helpful for her cause as well. She will need either football or basketball on I have good success next year to help with revenue and donations for her to springboard to a P5 job.

Does DRF know more about the McCoy situation, did that impact letting go of MM?

DRF did herself zero favors with the press conference bravado. She helped set expectations too high.

Now I dont know if he is a good hire or not, ik really more pissed at the fact they keep hiring mediocrity versus going for someone that is a known winner. Especially since there were talks of a higher budget for a coach this time.

God, I hope they didnt **** up and pay him the big bucks as well.

I've never defended TKM before, but let's not forget her first hire was Beard, who is a 3 seed playing later this week. Keep hiring mediocrity is in my opinion inaccurate. More importantly, if TJO fit better with the realistic financial positioning of the university, it's a good hire rather than being stuck under booster thumbs.

I get the problems that will come with the hire, he's not a 15-20 year long time elite coach making 3.2 mil...

If he was, it wouldn't be here.
