It’s been difficult to ascertain. The landscape is so damn different. A list of what used to be 20 or so is now 200 because of the ability to contact so many en masse, for them to immediately contact you, the sheer numbers and immediacy makes it difficult to get a firm grasp. And even if you have a firm grasp, by the time you finish typing. It’s changed.

I have heard so many different things but no certainties. I don’t think they’re relaxing behind the scenes, I think they are doing all they can. Obviously, the roster is going to be hugely different.

Hopefully for the significantly better.

Hopefully they are doing nothing during this dead period. I don’t want to get hit with penalties and probation in KK’s last year. We’ve got enough problems.

Joe, I have always appreciated you and your info, I hope you continue being the good source that you are… someday we will sit down and eat together while rooting for a team we can both on board with!

He did an interview with Cofield and said they’ve got some visits set up after the dead period.

Who knows if these players are even good, or if they’re actually interested. They could be using the visit for a free trip to Vegas.

I seriously think that we aren’t going to bounce back to any level that makes people rally around them, not on a sustainable way. Hoping for that fluke type of season every now and again is what I think we are about now. The chasm is increasing between the real schools and wannabe schools. Yeah, I realize that this FF has a few unexpecteds … but with the NLI and conference money, I think it’s going to further separation. Did I read that U Miami’s roster payroll is 3x our staff payroll? Local business people aren’t going to put together a strong plan, imo. A little here and there perhaps … otherwise we’d have hooked a name coach long ago …

I’ve followed closely for decades. I hope it’s not true. But I’m not one of those to blow fake smoke to put a smile on people’s faces. I hope it’s not true but suspect it is.

It’s not a sudden thing, the erosion hasn’t been steady, sometimes it’s heavier than others, but it’s been erosion.

Joe can this be overcome or is the decay/ rot to deep in the core?

I think it’ll take something pretty significant/monumental to flip the script. We’ve been more destined for U San Fran/DePaul than Kansas. And if it is something monumental, it won’t be UNLV’s doing the heavy lifting, it’ll be riding coattails, like Raider Stadium. UNLV hasn’t earned anything, they haven’t built on anything. By monumental, I mean conference affiliation and not just going to a gutted PAC-12 that would resemble the current MWC. Something with a strong TV deal, stronger big bowl chances, etc, because that’s where the money comes in. UNLV doesn’t have a lot and they haven’t raised much.

I mean, look at the last half dozen years, look at that trajectory? We are AFA, we are SJSU. There’s no fan support, no dollars. You can ostrich it and ignore it and say it’s just a blip, but we’ve never had this poor of a stretch since …. Before Tark came here? Look at where we’ve been recently. And let’s face it, the MWC was ripe for the picking for a dominant team for a long time, for 15 plus years. UNLV didn’t step up, SDSU did.

I could be wrong but it doesn’t feel like it at all.

Fire Kevin? What good does that do when we will have 600K for a coach? It’d most likely be more of the same with someone else. That’s why I say it needs to be something rather monumental, the foundation is awful, the culture isn’t good … and even if UNLV were to find a way to get the money to “fix things” … has UNLV athletics done many things right over the past 40 years? It’s a mess athletically, we just got very lucky to have the best coach in the game camouflage the idiocy on the Parkway.

Anybody that wants to offer up some positives from UNLV that don’t involve a bunch of ifs or raging blind faith, I’m all ears.

You would know better than most on here but if anyone can chime in, please do!
Joe, do we have any big money boosters to engage at all… business, celebs, entertainers etc?

I think the old money is mostly dead and the new money doesn't care about the Runnin Rebels.
Bingo. And old money, when it was there, how much was needed? The program generated so much money. Those buildings didn’t pop up because of academics.

And I wouldn’t call it old money. To me old money means generations of money. We’ve been around since 57. It’s still a young school, and most that had an interest in UNLV only cared because of the basketball program, not because they graduated from UNLV. Most money came from businessmen who didn’t go to UNLV and they were in because of basketball success, not the physics program. Once admin crapped all over the place and chased the fans that were loyal to the program, we nosedived and haven’t recovered. I don’t think businesses are chomping at the bit to prop UNLV up.

The bad guys won. And the fans have been paying for it.

2 guys on the top of our targets already committed to other programs.

With who we are recruiting I don’t think that we will win the MWC even by fluking in.

Hopefully, I have been fed very bad info leading up to and including on April Fools Day.

I’ve heard good, bad, mediocre. And I don’t think anybody is outright lying. It’s the info on about 4 dozen or so portal players. I’m just doing the waiting game, too unstable to have a firm grip.

There's definitely a tier to who we want and who we will realistically get...every time a name comes up that's a lower school kid with great numbers I put him in the untouchables list... they're wanting exposure and NIL $. If it's a P5 kid with middle of road stats looking for PT, I put it in the maybe pile... there's a few from KU that meet that pile... then there's everyone else.. P5 guys who aren't panning out, and lower tier guys who are just moving around, and I don't expect much from them..
Who knows, we might get lucky woth an untouchables guy, but my expectations are it'll be alot of the low end guys and the expectations will be on current rostered players to be the dependables...
