Petrino (Bird)

Weren't there rumblings about 2-3 weeks ago about A&M possibly going after a coach or 2 we were looking at? I can't recall what or where, just recall some chatter about it. I'm not shocked tbh..
I do know petrino interviewed at A&M a few days before accepting the UNLV OC job.

So did some research. The biggest buyout in the history of college athletics was Coach 0 at 17.1 mil.
Jimbo would be owed over 76 mil if fired next season. That is 4.5x more than the biggest buyout in history.

Not saying that it can't happen, but you can't say that it would be easy for A&M to make that move.
Gus Malzahn: $21,450,000 — When Auburn gave Malzahn a new seven-year, $49 million contract at the end of the 2017 season, it came with significant buyout, with 75 percent of the deal’s value fully guaranteed. At the time of his firing last month, that buyout was down to $21,450,000, half of which was due within 30 days. That means last week Auburn forked over a $10,725,000 payment to its now-former coach, with the remaining money due in four equal annual installments.

They also paid Malzahn's staff roughly $8.3 million

At the same time they ended up paying Harsin $15.1 million and an expected $4 million for his staff and giving Hugh Freeze a $39 million dollar fully guaranteed contract. And if he stinks in the first 2 years they'll fire him too and pay his buyout.

I think I agree it's a move that an $86 million dollar buyout is something nobody wants to play with if they don't have to at the end of the day. I don't think A&M wants to hemorrhage money for no reason. But if football made a $69 million dollar profit last year with a losing season, what do you think the bean counters figure they'd make in a year that they were legit title contenders.

I think sunk cost matters less when you can recoup big money from your booster pool without having to touch the actual athletic budget. That's how Auburn affords their instability.

But my argument isn't that they want to pay it, just that his seat is a lot hotter than you'd ever expect with a $86 million buyout.

He's well connected because he's Barry Odom...

🙂

@AA Insider any other news you're hearing on your end, regarding players/coaches/Odom, etc? You are obviously well connected.
I would expect the OC hire to be someone that runs a fast paced spread offense. As far as transfers go, the guys that will be brought in will be guys that can produce, not necessarily big names or from big schools. I would expect some commits over the next few days.

Thanks as always. Keep chiming in when you get info if possible.

Fast paced Spread offense?? Isn’t the Spread extinct?

RPO is still a spread to me lol.
When you get to town..we’re gonna have to cut the weed/beer part. I’m making a conscious effort to cut that out of my diet in 2023.

We’re not doing strip clubs cause strip clubs is a money losing venture.

The hooker part, that’s a tough one. When we do the helicopter tour of the city, you take seperate helicopters from your wife and kids…when you guys go to the Grand Canyon. You gotta go when it’s rainy and thunderstorms. We’ll have another helicopter go in your place..meanwhile, your helicopter is heading to Sheri’s ranch in Pahrump NV.

You do your thing……fly back and meet the guys in formation in the clouds and blend right back in.

Mission accomplished.

No one knows, no one complains, no one sees anything..

Got it coach?

Welcome to Vegas. @AA Insider.

This is classic 😂👌🏻

Dude was a POS long before he bailed on UNLV.
He was long before he got here at arkansas too. I remember him being at Louisville and interviewing at auburn while tuberville was still the coach. Petrino was his oc there at auburn before his first Louisville stint. He then pulled that move at falcons to come to arkansas. Only reason we liked him is we were winning big at the time. Then he had the accident here. I was hoping he had changed and was rooting for him to do great at unlv. Texas A&M not so much. Hope to see him and Jimbo fail together

Maybe Petrino has illusions of Jimbo being fired with he being his replacement.
Though possible, very unlikely. Only if the offense really destroys next season, but the defense lets them down.

You don't blow 76 mil to replace Jimbo with a very controversial coach that was on that same under performing staff.

If they fire Jumbo, they go big I would think.

How much bigger can you go than Jimbo though?

I mean dudes got a National Title.

Not a lot of those guys walking around.

I know, that is kinda my point with how hot is his seat really?

You can a proven guy that is still recruiting well to waste money to get a cheaper unproven guy?

Or go after a proven guy like Urban Meyer or maybe Harbaugh, buy that will cost even more. They set their own precedent with 10 year guaranteed 9 mil contracts. I doubt htey land another superstar coach for less. Probably more.

Now you have 150 mil on the books in coach salary, yeesh, i don't know.

That is why I don't think his seat is THAT hot. It is warm for sure. But A lot of things have to line up for them to pull that trigger.

Agree.

Outside of Urban I'm not sure who else is out there.

And holy crap imagine paying Urban and Jimbo's buyout...

There’s so many Texas teams (college and pros)..and they all ditchstomp our team easily.

Very unlikely...but Petrino clearly has a massive ego so I can see him believing it possible.

Scrub, from Utah, I am sending you the Japanese anime cartoon video equivalent of the Jimbo Bobby partnership.
Many thanks my friend. I’m afraid I jinxed your team when they played Paedo State. I have a knack for picking a team and they lose whenever I follow them or see them.

It is scientific fact. Give me a team to root for and voila..they lose.

Your UtAh team has given me a short joy from the pac 10 beat down of USC last December. I didn’t see the first half when you took out their QB. I was in deep hibernation and awoke to see your defense turn the juice up at the end. I have two highly successful relatives who are USC alums and I wish I was at their house to rub it in instead of waking up to it. And plus @bcvegaspt went there too so **** him!!

I have a friend who studied ballet at Utah. We are super close. However, I’m not really pursuing her sexually at this moment.

Since UNLV is headed to the Crack 10, hopefully you guys stay put and UNLV can have a road game in football/ basketball. Ironically, I have never been to Salt Lake even during the fabulous Rick Majerus (God rest his soul) years with Britain Johnson/Hanno Mattola/Andre Miller/Andrew Bogut.

If and when I do go there, hopefully I will sample not the weed/beer..but the single hoes/wiccans/ex mormon chicks there.

Anyways feel free to hang out on this forum. This is a VERY free flowing place. You will not be censored in anyway for speaking your mind.

Trivia..did you know that the temple in Salt Lake..is an exact replica of the church temple of Denmark.
