No school is safe

Now do duke, they say.
They have the ample resources to lose and replace with the same quality. But it’ll still lead to some instabilities because of a lack of continuity and the getting used to each other phase … and it throws more importance on getting chemistry right.

But with the ability to still grab top quality, they’re in a much better position than most of us.

In all it’s just going to lead to uglier, less cohesive basketball. I think that’s why UConn is an outlier right now, because they were extremely well honed.

But it’ll all trickle down and the end result will be uglier hoops.

Sign me up for Calipari's lack of cohesion. 15 years one natty, 4 final fours, 6 elite 8s, 7 sweet sixteens and something like 32 1st round draft picks. Yeah, Cal doesn't have all the acumen to outcoach people when someone can match his talent, but that level of talent is crazy and gets lots of Ws.

We were nearly there with Dave Rice.

Alot of the parity we may start to see is as these kids move around and collect larger $$, how much motivation do they have to compete hard enough to get drafted. 5 star kids can go to 2 or 3 schools, collecting millions of dollars potentially of NIL money and then land their last season at a "big school" that allows them to get drafted off their potential anyways...

You see guys with “upside” that averaged 6 points and 4 rebounds as a freshman getting over 100k.

I’m thinking Dantley could have pulled in 20k per year.

That’s who is benefitting the most. Fringe NBA kids. Before you might be on the fence in deciding to stay or leave early. Now it’s a no brainer. If you aren’t projected first round, negotiate a better NIL and stay the year. You’ll play, get paid and you should increase your stock.

But … for schools like UNLV, if you get that fringe guy that can’t decide … he can leave early or opt to go to another school who can pay a hell of a lot more than UNLV.

It’s a bad situation for those without money, stability wise. Recruit “decent” kids two and three stars, coach them up - they go elsewhere. If you don’t coach them up, your team sucks.

If Firm guard rails aren’t installed, it’s going to get a hell of a lot worse. And I don’t think they will be installed, not strong ones at least … players have the power, the NCAA isnt going to want to deal with the courts.

Ed O should be a multi-millionaire for the trail he blazed. He always was a Rebel.

I guess the only good news out of this, is that schools, should they so desire, can go out and find support money to bring in top players. At least in theory. So even UNLV could go and really push hard to get a bunch of money set up, and bring in 3-4 high end guys.

I'm not saying that's going to happen, but it is at least feasible.

Its the same for coaches though.. except that coaches have buyouts to pay universities back when they leave after turning a program around in 1, 2 or 3 years. Its good business for these fringe universities if you make consistent good hires and even then, it really only matters to the next administration. Look at schools like FGCU that had good coaching, 2 years of fun in the tournament, and then you havent really heard of them really since.. But their enrollment went up by the thousands for multiple years following.. Good business..
Meanwhile, we aren't in a position to pay those types of dollars for players yet act like when we miss out that its we should just close up shop... Its all about changing our recruiting and honestly, its only to be competitive in conference and then hope you get lucky in the tournament a few times..

Why can't schools include buyouts in these deals they're giving out to these players? 1) it might help maintain continuity for programs of the buyout is too much for other schools and 2) the schools constantly being poached can atleast be rewarded financially.

Because every school would have to offer it and till it becomes universal it would just make the school implementing it at a disadvantage. It's the same concept of multiple transfers... Kids wanted to be free to come and go, originally argument was solely on being stuck somewhere if your coach leaves or is fired, now it's just come and go as you please, collecting $$ at each stop. There's not really and guards in place to prevent this and any attempts likely end up back in court where NCAA hasn't had much success lately

It's a good idea though. Kind of like the airlines instituting fees to have a seat on a plane and not get stuck strapped to a wing you just need one to institute it and the rest will follow. Have KY put it in and you will have a ton follow. It is allowed in coach contracts no reason it shouldn't be in players too.
