Like some of the comments say, it’s not even close to an amateur sport now. If true, this guy is making more that backup QB’s in the NFL.
Beyond stupidity! This kid will likely be lucky if he ever plays for the Canadian football league at a much reduced paycheck!

True, but there is a ton of money to be made by schools in collegiate athletics. The money is totally out of control thoughBeyond stupidity! This kid will likely be lucky if he ever plays for the Canadian football league at a much reduced paycheck!
Pro sports have a salary cap, and they work without under the table deals, don't they? Or are those occurring but I just don't know about them?A cap has to be put in place, but then we're back to the old days of under-the-table deals, tractor's for PA, and a new house for Ma. Only way to win this battle is to become a Have. Then hope the game is still enjoyable in a decade after turning 18 yr olds into whiney a$$ LeBron's or Dallas Cowboy's.
They won't turn whiny, they'll just walk away from school A with a couple mill, go to school B for a few more and if that doesn't work the way they want there's always C,D, and E... could fix alot of it by putting the transfer cap back in place, restrict movement to one free transfer and the next carry eligibility penalties or NIL penalties. Like say you make a 2nd transfer but you're restricted from earning NIL money that first season...A cap has to be put in place, but then we're back to the old days of under-the-table deals, tractor's for PA, and a new house for Ma. Either way, that's a lot of cash still included...I m having a hard time imagining that all of it is cash. Its probably a “$8m package”. Stipend, room and board, car, travel package for the family with hotel, suite package for the family, 401k, etc. all contingent upon completion of the term.
401k 🤣I m having a hard time imagining that all of it is cash. Its probably a “$8m package”. Stipend, room and board, car, travel package for the family with hotel, suite package for the family, 401k, etc. all contingent upon completion of the term.
Might just be a way to spread the pain. We’ll give x dollars over 10 years, or a ratio for the amount of time you’re here. We’ll throw in a contribution to a charity of your choice, etc.401k 🤣
Not saying you're wrong. Just funny as hell. I would think it would be a lot easier for a company just to write you one check and whatever you do with it is your business. No business entanglements that way.
Most schools lose money in athletics, and I really think nothing has changed. Without football most athletics would be quickly dropped.True, but there is a ton of money to be made by schools in collegiate athletics. The money is totally out of control though
That's actually an interesting way to increase NIL payouts without maxing out yearly funds... paying into a retirement account for players over many years... so instead of say one 5 million dollar player you can get 10 5 million dollar players with 500k deals where half goes to stipend and half to 401ks...Might just be a way to spread the pain. NIL cap is inevitable, which will force further separation between the P4 schools and the rest bc the former will want a higher cap. Ugly. What’s the point of attending classes anymore? That’s been a complete charade for quite some time at many of these schools. Just make it a minor league to the NFL and call a spade a spade.
I think every ACC schools and all schools across the nation are peacocking to the BIG and SEC for inclusion. As good as Duke's basketball is it may not matter much. Football rules. You can see in this year with UNLV football. The income for one game against BSU and how much it brought in.Beyond stupidity! This kid will likely be lucky if he ever plays for the Canadian football league at a much reduced paycheck!
Dodgers paying salary cap tax for going over like $100MM. But they don't care bc it's worth it for that franchise to pay that tax. They probably made that back just on Ohtani jersey sales alone. So it's basically, whatever. Man City in EPL have constantly flouted the Financial Fair Play rule (spending cap) and have never been punished once. They got like 130 or so violations and keep going with no penalty. Meanwhile Everton gets scewed every year on points deductions for Man City's behavior.Pro sports have a salary cap, and they work without under the table deals, don't they? Did Travis Bice make a phone call or eat a candy bar to 'earn' his suspension? And just think, 20yrs ago an athlete would get suspended if he got a cheeseburger and ride home from a coach lol
You do realize that 401K plans have annual contribution limits and are for people who have jobs. Not saying your NIL boosters couldn't set them up as employees, but you can't just drop $250K into an employees' 401K plan. That's actually an interesting way to increase NIL payouts without maxing out yearly funds... paying into a retirement account for players over many years... so instead of say one 5 million dollar player you can get 10 5 million dollar players with 500k deals where half goes to stipend and half to 401ks...
$7000 yearly limit for an IRA account right? You do realize that 401K plans have annual contribution limits and are for people who have jobs. Not saying your NIL boosters couldn't set them up as employees, but you can't just drop $250K into an employees' 401K plan.
401k, IRA, Roth, etc... establish investment plans. And I believe the new NIL with schools being able to pay directly, they become employees. The intent was just saying you could get creative with ways to increase NIL pay for more elite players, especially since more are becoming more savvy with finances. You do realize that 401K plans have annual contribution limits and are for people who have jobs. For those that aren't savvy, lifetime Little Darlin' bucks. Now that I say that out loud, Marvin Menzies probably would have learned how to coach and recruit with that on the table and Lamar Odom would be on his 35th yr of eligibility still working on his 1st year credits.401k, IRA, Roth, etc... establish investment plans. Your point is correct, but I find it odd your first name to pull for an example is Angel Reese. If you told me to name 15,000 college athletes, Angel Reese would not have made the list.Correct..
You think Angel Reese was even on campus at LSU other than practice & game days for her team & LSU football games?!? Lmao..
No chance she ever stepped foot in a biology or math class EVER!!
We all know that for a majority of college athletes, their classes are a bigger joke than the Raiders offense this year..
Stop the ruse, let them just focus on their sports & that’s that..
CRhodes
I do know someone who could dump $250k into a single premium variable life insurance policyYou do realize that 401K plans have annual contribution limits and are for people who have jobs. Well cause she is the most recent famous example of her GPA getting leaked in her last year at LSU.. & everyone knew she wasn’t at LSU to make an 8 AM Bio Lab every Wednesday… & a 9:30 AM Math 143 class every Tuesday & Thursday.. haha..Your point is correct, but I find it odd your first name to pull for an example is Angel Reese. They do with the IRS!They all should have to declare how much money and from where.
