Can anyone name a team that was in the dumps for 20+ years - like us - and was turned around into a consistent winner? There are a few that fell on hard times and came back - but I can't find one nearly as bad as us?

There has to be a few. Or are we on virgin ground?

SMU comes to mind when they suffered the death penalty back in the 80's. They had success 20 years latter or so. For some reason the name Jim Jones comes to my mind as the coach that turned their program around. ( I may have got the name completely wrong but the guy also turned the Hawaii program completely around also. )

This coach turned around both programs (completely around ) in relatively a short period of time. If you have the right coach it can be done!

Wasn't Northwestern the worst of the worst for the longest time till Barnett (?) turned them around?

Temple comes to mind too. They got it turned around...

TCU was pretty bad for a long time, making three bowl games in about 40 years (and losing all three). Then about 1999 they started making noise in the WAC, got Gary Patterson, and now they are a relevant program.

I dont pay as much attention to any school more than I do Oregon but I know there are many examples, including some listed above, K-State, but Oregon was really really bad for a long time. Look at there season records and pay attention tp the 20 plus year span between about 1965-1988.

Also Oregon St from about 1972-1999

Both of these Oregon programs were bad for a really long time, OSU hasnt been anywhere close to UO but have had some good seasons.

Nothing represents how bad these programs were as much at the 1983 Civil War their annual rivalry game where they tied 0-0. The game played in bad weather had 11 TO's and 4 missed FG's.

Funny you should mention the Duck drought, @rebswin2 . My cousin played FB and a little LB for UO in the mid-70's and, yeah, they were crappy. I've linked an amusing story about a game he was in when they played a crappy TCU team, and a Horned Frog came off the bench to tackle a Duck who was sailing unabated to the end zone after an interception. My cousin, Kim, is one of those interviewed for this story.
