As far as I'm concerned, this is just more of the same pro Pac 12 stuff we've seen since Memphis and Tulane said no thanks. The Pac 12 needs UNLV, the fan bases in the Pac 12 want UNLV over middle of no where Texas schools, probably TV partners want UNLV... but until there's substantial information it's all fan theory about what's best for them. It's basically a step up from the SI article saying UNLV is a Big 10 candidate because these guys have a little more legitimacy

A lot of PAC fans actually don’t want UNLV and talk about how broke the athletic department is, how historically bad the team is, how the Vegas media market isn’t really that good and don’t need UNLV to be in Vegas.

Unless the PAC media deal is north of 12 million it would be fiscally irresponsible to join the PAC at this point.

Where did I say mid-season?

Unless the poaching fees get significantly reduced or thrown out.

If the PAC also has a p4 free pass, gets a base 10 mil per year ( which would likely be double the MW) and the PAC pays 1/2 of our negotiated exit fees, the break even point of going to the PAC vs staying may be anywhere from 3 years to 0 days.

Then there will be no reason to stay. Go to the stronger conference, get more guaranteed money, still have the free pass.

Because of an immense amount of hubris they have backed themselves into a corner.

I applaud the move to try and get Memphis and Tulane. That would have been a very very good football conference. We can debate on how good each school they took initially is or isn't, but when USU joined the PAC had acquired every school that had won a conference title over the last decade plus except for SJSU the Covid year.

Where the PAC screwed up was by not doing 1 of 2 things.

Either just swallow your pride and reverse merger.

Or

Kill the MWC outright.

If the initial poach would have been

SDSU, BOISE, CSU, USU, FRESNO, UNLV they would have had their conference done.

Gloria would have been staring at:

RENO, UNM, WYO, SJSU.
(Hawaii only partial member).
(No way AFA sticks around for that mess. They bolt to the AAC)

Gloria's left with three options.

Rebuild. But who's going to join that? The media deal would take a huge hit.

Merge with CUSA

Or

Remaining schools presidents vote to disband the conference eliminating any exit fees and simply become 'free agents' and join CUSA.

PAC could then have gone to media partners and got a true valuation. Approached Memphis, Tulane, UTSA and possibly North Texas (Still think USF is too far).

No it's not a 'Power' conference but it's damn close. There would be 5 schools that were ranked at some point in the year.

That is your interpretation. I never meant mid-season and I didn't say mid-season.
