MWC Commish Nevarez statement on Realignment speculation

I hate to be reading more into it than what it says but, it's almost a shot across the bow in that "several member institutions who have publicly expressed their intent to depart the conference". Are these the 5 traitors or is she talking about some new schools like the talk that has been going around on this board the last few days about UNLV still in talks with the PAC? Just name the 5 departing schools and make it clear.

Edit: After rereading it I think it means just the 5 departing schools. It may be worded in such a way that to say they haven't given their official exit letter.

It's certainly weird timing about releasing it now, and yeah, I'm sure it is related to the rumors about UNLV and the PAC going around.

Specifics can become a weapon for lawsuits, so it is always better to put things in general terms!

The best case scenario, IMO, for the PAC right now would be if there is legs to this talk about the SEC grabbing a couple of the ACC teams, because that would likely result in the ACC looking to backfill from the AAC conference, likely Memphis & Tulane.

If that happened, the AAC may end up having to reassess the media deal since so many of the schools have changed since it was agreed to. That scenario would make it much more likely that the PAC could get into the Texas market with teams like UTSA, N. Texas, or Rice.

There are a lot of issues with this though. The big ones being:
1. Florida State and Clemson have sued the ACC and attempted to fight the Grant of Rights agreement that they signed, but it doesn't seem like they've made any progress with it. At best case, it seems like 2027 is the earliest that they'd be able to leave.
2. For the PAC, however, the timing is everything. They have to have that 8th full member before July 1, 2026, I believe.

The PAC/MWC lawsuit is the other big wildcard. Was the exit fee for the MWC high? Yes. But the schools and the conference agreed to that to attempt to protect the conference as a whole. If they didn't want to go along with it, why did they sign it?

So unless something major occurs, it seems like the PAC will likely end up having to bring in Texas State to or Sac State, to at least get to 8, and then it seems like that would be all until the lawsuit with the PAC/MWC gets resolved.

The results of that lawsuit though could be massive. Especially in the event that they cut the exit fees down significantly. In that scenario, and assuming the PAC media deal is around 9-10M, I think there's a good chance that UNLV jumps. Lots of "ifs" though.

I am sure the MWC is stilling looking at other schools and working on a revised media contract, so they need to do something regarding the rumors being put out in the social media!
Good point. I think the media contract negotiations are the key point to this announcement. We need to ride this one until that media contract and the lawsuits are settled.

Pac issued a similar statement too.
Link Please?
Ahh, its old. Its from 2023 after Colorado left.

Well fer shit's sake. August, 2023!? Breaking news! We still had 9 teams at that point. I'd continue with some snide remark but realize that I am merely a fiendly friendly visitor....... :)

Thanks for checking on it though. We get shit from the Pac for information. As in nothing. Ghost shit.

You don't have the Shit List? Excerpts:
Corn Shit - self-explanatory
Wet Shit - you wipe and wipe and still have to stuff some TP in your britches
Ghost Shit - shit on the paper, no shit in the toilet (I think I recall that correctly)
Clean Shit - shit in toilet, no shit on TP

There's 10-15 of them. Don't have my hardcopy anymore....maybe I will Google it

Edit - here we go:

The MWC, if I recall, was the first conference to have one of these very high exit fees. It came on the heels of BYU, TCU, and Utah leaving doe greener pastures. The remaining teams wanted protection.

That included SDSU and CSU at that time, and then BSU, USU, and FSU when they joined the conference.

I'd have to say this is another article I just saw which triggered Gloria to make those announcements.

His source is Canzano. Prior to all of this, Canzano was a decent reporter. Unfortunately lately he has been throwing a lot of darts. If I recall, he does have one big source in someone with Utah State’s athletic department. He’s missed a lot recently though.

He had Karl Benson on a few weeks ago and the first thing Benson said about who the PAC should add was UNLV and Reno make too much sense and he wasnt sure why they arent already there.

As far as I'm concerned, this is just more of the same pro Pac 12 stuff we've seen since Memphis and Tulane said no thanks. The Pac 12 needs UNLV, the fan bases in the Pac 12 want UNLV over middle of no where Texas schools, probably TV partners want UNLV... but until there's substantial information it's all fan theory about what's best for them. It's basically a step up from the SI article saying UNLV is a Big 10 candidate because these guys have a little more legitimacy

This. The UNLV President and AD have information that is close held and not knowable. There probably aren't 10 people who know everything that went into the decision to stay in the MW. Without knowing everything, we can't really say if the decision was good or not. And we'll never know.
