What a freaking joke. Getting kicked out for a Raider game is one thing but "We may need it for concerts and other events" is crap. Good thing DRF is still happy about her "positive and productive working relationship with the Raiders".

Is it April 1st ? This is got to be some "F"n Joke! Steve Sisolak needs to step in since it's obvious DRF is way out of her league when it comes to dealing with the Jokeland Traiders ! SMH

Our football program is a joke - how could you not anticipate us being bitched around by the NFL

We shouldn’t be. Listen, UNLV doesn’t “deserve” such a great stadium, but they have ownership, taxes paid for a good chunk of it. As such, no way we should be second class citizens. Everyone will view it as belonging to the Raiders, but - it’s UNLV’s just as much. If UNLV lays down on this, I’ll be disappointed.

I fully expected to be 2nd class citizens to the Raiders. However I thought as a primary tenant we'd at least have priority over concerts, motocross, and monster jams.

Remember when we hired DRF all the talk about how great of a legal expert she was and how she'd negotiate a great deal for us. LOL- it's still a clown show at UNLV

Why wasn't this brought up at the stadium Authority meeting yesterday. Seems to me that they would need to move the games to Friday night or maybe Thursday night to avoid having to play two more games at Sam Boyd. It'll be interesting to see how UNLV is going to spin this.

RebNReno I'm responding to your post but, I'm addressing a larger issue.

The UNLV Joint Use Agreement was adopted by the BOR (fk those guys) and the Stadium Authority (Las Vegas Stadium Events Company). Mike Newcomb is our UNLV Representative on the Stadium authority board. This guy manages Sam Boyd, Thomas & Mack, and the Cox Pavilion and now has the influence on the Stadium board to impact our scheduling. This guy is our athletics facility manager. I'm sure he talks to Desiree but, this guy is the guy we need to hear from. Doesn't sound like the Raiders give a crap about this guy.

Keep in mind when the Joint Use Agreement was put in place this first year we agreed to only ONE priority non-conference event. That one date was specific to 8/29/20 which is the CAL game. The real question here is why did we agree to just ONE event the first year. Following the first year we are guaranteed (ha) TWO priority non-conference events.

That being said in 2021 we need to schedule two Priority non conference games at home and then schedule other non conference games away. It doesn't make sense to schedule more than two home non conference games from 21 to the future if there is no guarantee the Raiders will accommodate us. Sure the Raiders Org. can accommodate additional non conference games IF THEY WANT TO. It's in the Joint Use Agreement but, why would they. They are in a FOR PROFIT BUSINESS. The Raiders are not a charitable community organization.

This was negotiated months ago. We agreed to one non-conference game the first year. Complaining now we sound like whiny bit*hes. A contract is a contract.

“Hey Cal, we signed the deal, but is it ok to move the game to Thursday? ESPN, you too? Can you handle this request?”

@Cal - a short week? We want all the time we can have before the game. We agreed and signed to a Saturday. No thanks, we will honor the contract, you do the same. “

Just saying, it’s more than just a simple decision and voila.

UNLV will concede for games they can, I’m sure. I’m certain the MWC will work hand in hand with UNLV to avoid conflicts.

But the non-con? That may be out of our hands.

The Raiders/NFL should show a little flexibility to make it work. If UNLV is going to show some flexibility for 4 of 6 home games, the Raiders/NFL can show some for the other two, imo.

The Raiders are clueless to how college football works. And it’s not like UNLV is strong. It’s a caustic mix right now.

I’m hating the Raiders for all sorts of non sports reasons.

I'm a Raiders lifer.

This is really making me feel differently. Most outsiders seem to say "you're lucky to eve be there!" Not realizing the alternate was unlv get it's own stadium (or a large chunk of funding) with it UNLV as primary tenant. That was in SB1 when proposed and written and signed into law. I forget the actual number, it obviously wasnt $750m.

I would have rather had that to be honest.

I'm starting to think that the smaller scale $350M Majestic project would have been better for UNLV. I think that was the number, 330-350 or something thereabouts.

I guess the funny thing is the Raiders are paying UNLV to close Sam Boyd Stadium. Now the Raiders will have to compensate UNLV to move games to Sam Boyd Stadium.

This is totally on us.

The ASU game was negotiated in July 2015 and the Cal game was negotiated in Nov. 2017.

BOTH WAY BEFORE THE STADIUM NEGOTIATIONS TOOK PLACE ENDING IN JANUARY 2018!!

Plus we paid lawyers $200,000 to negotiate this for us.

We should have demanded two games the first year based on the above data.

We are the fools - not the Raiders. DRF's lawyer negotiator had to know this and DRF should have known this.

If they could only get one game the entire valley should have known about it early on. No reason to play dumb till now.

Will They?

I believe the joint use agreement contract states that if the Raiders Force UNLV to move football games to another venue that the University would be compensated for game day expenses.

You know this situation is kind of like a bad timeshare deal. The sales person brings you in and you sign the contract they tell you you're going to be able to use the timeshare whenever you want and sure enough that's not the truth. The truth is there are blackout dates, the truth is the timeshare may become overbooked, but if you look at the fine print in your agreement you will see that they will compensate you if you're forced to stay add another timeshare. As long as we share a stadium with the Raiders we'll always have to call them and check on availability of the building to see if we may use it for two of our non-conference games.

There's no question the majestic project would have been better for UNLV. It also would have been better for UNLV if the Raiders fell through and we would have received the money to build an on campus stadium. It would have been 300 million.

You're right, this is on us. The Cal game was finalized after the stadium was decided. The contract with them specifies it is played at Allegiant. ASU and La Tech it doesn't and that's one of the reasons why the Raiders can make this move.

The other(and most important) reason is that in the joint use agreement we only have language for 1 non conference home game in 2020. The problem is we have 3. Starting in 2021 the contract states we have 2 non conference and 4 home dates.

Yeah, the idea with locking specifically 1 non con was the ensure UNLV would get 3, expecting the other 2 to be a given.

UNLV maybe a party to bad faith negotiating by Raiders, but also made themselves look foolish by not getting the language clearly and expressly written for 3 noncons. Totally their own doing, and a really bad way for this relationship to start.

Ummm. F... the raiders. They can go 0 - 16 next year for all I care...

I agree, not because of this, because for the 3rd time in my lifetime they have left their fans for a cash grab. F them, and their goofy dumb and dumber looking owner.

None of this stadium mess is a surprise, we are talking about UNLV and The Raiders, I guarantee this is just the first of many bad times for this relationship. If two organizations can F someting up, its these two disfunctional outfits.

SBS it's supposed to be closed by 6/30/2020

Its a situation I pretty much expected. I also wouldn't be surprised to see all games return to Sam Boyd in the next decade.
Raiders Stadium is a nice venue be it doesn't look like a home for UNLV & has the worst parking situation in the country.

Agree with the parking. I wish the monorail expansion would continue past the Mandalay Bay travel over I-15 and make the final stop at the stadium. I guess you can walk from the Mandalay stop to the stadium to avoid the traffic.

As for allegiant stadium it sure will be nice to sit in an air conditioned building and watch a game.

I love the monorail concept but I don't think it can carry enough people to make a difference.

This is definitely true! If you are conscience about how you do things like she is.. why in the hell was she not vocal about this way back when?

I know others are involved too but she is trying to jump to a Power 5 AD chair and this ain't a good look for a wanna be Power 5 AD!

I'm a Las Vegas resident and huge college football fan (no direct connection to UNLV otherwise). I find this to be outrageous and wrote my Nevada state representatives as well as Gov. Sisolak to advise them of my opinion. I hated the idea of spending public money on an NFL stadium, and the concept was sold to the public by the politicians in part by promising that it would benefit UNLV too. It was promised that UNLV would be treated fairly.

I hope all UNLV supporters write to their representatives and tell them that this treatment is unacceptable.

The deposits for season tickets are due. I'm not sure if I want to commit to season tickets until I see how those 2 games work out. I have no interest in spending any more time at SBS.
