I sometimes read other message boards to get a different take. I read Miss States board just to see how they felt about CDM taking the UNLV job. For most, CDM for football at Miss State is almost akin to Tark for UNLV basketball. Not quite, but the majority of Miss States fans would take him back in a heartbeat. In general many felt CDM had 3 stars playing like 5 stars in the SEC. Also, I didn’t know CDM at one point had Miss State ranked no. 1 in the country after starting out 10-0 in 2014 and losing to no. 4 Alabama and Saban 25-20 on the road. MSU finished no. 7 in the final AP poll that year. Also, CDM’s new defensive coordinator is Zach Arnett who was his dc at Miss State. Their take on CZA was very positive. Apparently, Arnett is very aggressive with his defensive schemes and expect an aggressive defense. On the offensive coordinator, Corey Dennis is Urban Meyers son in law. I don’t know if that connection has been mentioned.

The only reason Dan left Miss St is because Florida called. And the only reason he was fired from Florida was because he had 1 bad year/cycle and fans expect National titles there every season. Otherwise he'd still be there somewhere winning 10 games or more a season. Us getting him was a steal and major move.

Are you sure you won't consider trading him for WSU's new coach? It will save you $2M/year.

Talk about Coach Arnett's defense, the 3-3-5. What is the thing that this defense do best?

You get a lot of chaos as the offensive line and QB dont know whos is coming or dropping into coverage at the snap. Sometimes you get 6 or 7 guys on the line and 3 or 4 drop into coverage, sometimes they all come. Its a really aggressive defensive philosophy and really shines at these mid-level conferences who can get smaller faster defenders that might get over shadowed at bigger P4 schools. You get a ton of versatility and is very well suited for the offenses we see in the MWC.

Lots of flexibility. With the exception of the front 3, everyone else is usually a fast guy. Pull a guy forward, and you can show a 4 front look. Drop a guy back and you have a 3-2-6 look.

The varying looks get confusing for an offense, and it can leave lanes of attack open.

Specifically for Arnett, his last season as DC at Mississippi state showed a defense that was similar to this season of UNLV’s this season, except against 6 ranked teams.

Arnett's defense at Miss State was top 30. That's with Mike Leach's offense out there which at times could put his defense in bad spots with quick three and outs.

Arnett wasn't ready to be a HC but based on his work at SDSU and Miss State has a far better resume than Scherer coming in.

I really really like the Arnett hire. Nothings guaranteed to work obviously but I'd be shocked if the defense isn't as good next season if not better even with departures and graduations.

Bitter he'd rather be an assistant at UNLV than HC in ABQ.

After seeing what Danny Gonzales had to deal with..No way he takes that job. Not sure why anybody not in the FCS looking for a raise would touch it.

For all the 'resurgence' talk under Mendenhall they won exactly one more game than Gozales did and mostly with Gonzales players.

I think Eck might do ok there based on what he did rebuilding Idaho on limited resources. But UNM has to be one of the worst/toughest jobs in FBS now.

Hosted the #18 team in the country and drew 15k fans. It's pretty pathetic. I do feel bad for Lobo die hard fans.

They, play in a football stadium that was built in 1961. Called, University Stadium (this name is as boring and unoriginal, as they come).
It is, extremely outdated and in desperate need of a new one.
New Mexico fans, want a new stadium but the state is out of money/funds.
And, view this as number 83, of other important things to spend money on, in the state.
I, feel for them too.

Yeah it sucks. I know there's some poor Lobo fan who hasn't missed a game in 20 years sitting there thinking can we just catch a damn break...Knowing there is no break coming.
