We paid that much to keep Houston from getting him. We (CKK) panicked and that was the end result.
That's a little harsh.. He was 17/18 year old and led the team in scoring, assist and 3pt %, was a MWC 2nd team selection, Co-Freshman of the Year last season and absolutely deserved to get paid. This season with lesser talent and more expectations he came down but still led the team in scoring and assists. Its a problem with Kruger ball that he expects 1 player to be the lead scorer, like Bryce and EJ.. and that's absolutely not the right management for Dedan's skill.
I think it was a combo. Very good player, not as good as we thought, not strong enough to be primary, but Kevin made him primary. Poor management.
With NIL money on top of a free education, room and board, these are professional athletes. If they don't wont to be treated harshly, then do not get paid to play professional sports. The days of saying they are only kids is long gone now that they are being paid to play while students are not only paying their own way, but also hit with athletic fees to help subsidize professional sports. With few exceptions these are no longer student/athletes, the are professional athletes who jump from school to school based on who is willing to pay the most.
Right? Some of these 'kids' now make more money than many Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, and most professionals in all fields. I don't like personal attacks on individuals, but if you're being paid to perform your job, and you're not doing it, some pushback and criticism may be warranted.

How many basketball players can block a bullet? It is only a game and produces nothing but entertainment, but in the cases of college athletes, we are paying them more in some cases than professional franchise athletes even while they are not good enough to even be on the bench at pro teams.
It's because there are no caps and no contracts. Complete wild west. Pro sports would be even worse if there were annual free agency for everyone and zero salary caps. In a few years every World Series would be the Yankees vs. the Dodgers. Every Superbowl the Cowboys against the Patriots. Etc.
