Marion...

Why would they care about UNLV football... it's the same argument as why casinos don't just funnel cash to UNLV. There's no reason or incentive for them. It's not bringing millions of eyes or hundreds of thousands of people to Las Vegas.
It's to the City's benefit to have a team that will fill up that stadium.

We have Alegent Stadium. Close to the strip. We get a Power 5 invite and I guarantee they would want to be more involved. Plenty of fans to get their hands on with large amount willing to travel to Vegas. Not enough to get involved. When we're in the mountain west and they might have a couple thousand on a good day coming to vegas. usually less than a thousand.. Sometime just like a couple hundred. I know i'm a homer, But The powers to be has to be able to see the big picture. What vegas would bring to the conference.

If Marion leaves how many of our skill players depart?
Jet for sure. Maiava is 50/50 but he wont leave unless the team is the right fit geographically. Ricky will have been in college for 4 years already so maybe he graduates and leaves too or goes to the league.

Greg Burrell is a name to keep an eye on too. He loves the idea of staying home, but Marion was a big part of that. Devin Green is probably gone too (I already think hes shaky). McDaniel would for sure be gone. McGee might be, but I was recently told that hes very close to Coach Vice so maybe he stays.

These are the people off the top of my head.

Maiava and White are not this staff recruits? I get it that they love Marion but to leaves when he leave while they stay with Petrino and Odom? It doesn't make sense to me. I can see McDaniel but the rest of the players, I dont know. BM's best recruit was Karson Gordon and he is gone.

Here is another thing, the recruits and their family know that Brennan Marion work's histories. They may like him but I dont think they would commit toa coach who jump around.

The best and highest rated player coming to UNLV next year is Laster. He committed to Arkansas and follow Scherer to UNLV. The kid is legit a SEC player at MLB position.

He is 4 Stars recruit that is very aggressive and suicidal. Crazy and scary player at 250LBs player.

He looks like another Mike Singletary even when he garnered his teammates to dive every play.

The same thing can be said about any incoming OC. Maiava was not their recruit either. Who is to say the OC doesn't want to bring a QB with him to Vegas?

I definitely think it is for an elusive QB. I personally dont think Maiava is leaving. People were telling me on Twitter that P5 schools were going to call and offer him a big bag to leave. I dont believe that at all.

I hope he stays i want to see a finish product. Put more talent around him. Pretty impressive for a Freshman . I think he is more of a drop back QB. Savoy for a runner for not having that much speed.

Marion has said his offense can adapt to just about any QB. Obviously don't want a statue back there, which kills zone read and option elements, but you don't need Kyler Murray either.

Maiava has been able to make enough plays with his legs to keep defenses honest.

I'd prefer a QB that can threaten the defense with his legs but it's not something I would want to rely on.

I think Maiava could take another step forward next season and he's been pretty damn good this year.

Absolutely do not want to lose him.

He's a big kid covers a lot of ground with long strides. Not fast, but fast enough. Savvy is a good way to put it as well.

I don't see him just bolting for a P5.. people are so afraid of success because they fear it'll mean everyone goes away at the first shiny offer they're given... there's a lot more consideration for everyone including NIL deals, but what's to say P5s are jumping to dump cash on Maiava when they can go get a current P5 transfer or a 5 star recruit.. I mean Manning was the biggest name to sign in college and he's 3rd string and possibly transferring...

Marion said that he thinks SDSU can reach the pinnacle of college football. Even mentioned Darnay Scott and Marshall Faulk during his interview. The administration really loves him.
You changing your tune, Lobby? You stated earlier that he is staying.

I think Marion and Odom are really getting sick of not having fans show up. That will be our downfall.
This is spot on right here. Fans can only blame the administration and coaching for so long. Everything is in place right now to put UNLV on the football map and we’ve seen what can happen in 1 year with the right coaching hire. Now it’s time for the fans to put up or shut up and get the a$$es out to the games. I work almost 80 hrs. a week and have managed to drag my tired a$$ out to 2 games this season so far.

Why? Guys do it all the time.

Only so many of these jobs open up each year. You pass it you never know when the next opportunity will come. Or as unlikely as it seems, your offense struggles next year and suddenly interest dries up.

A chance to potentially triple your salary, and get a job you want.

San Diego is a quick flight. I'm sure we didn't lose much if any prep time.
Timing and messaging to the players. Nothing is going to happen right now that won't happen in 2-3 weeks.

I’ve said this before, they don’t have to obviously, but it’s called being a good neighbor, wanting your community to thrive etc.

Unfortunately it’s just the nature of the beast. SDSU has talked to other coaches as well like Tony White. I’m sure Michigan St has has several conversations with Jonathan Smith and others, same with Mississippi and whoever they are going after. If you have an opening ideally you get your guy the day the regular season ends at the new coach’s old school. Portal, recruiting etc every lost day sets you back.

Other than if you turn it down you may not be asked back.

You absolutely take the interview.

Pretty sure players understand the concept of a promotion.

If it was Odom interviewing for a P5 job that would be different. HC to HC position.

It's more of a 'distraction' to people on message boards than it is to people involved.

Have a hard time believing they wouldn't interview him after the game this weekend. Or put a shot clock on the interview and say do it now, or no interview for you.

Heavy roster turnover (both players and coaches), especially at the level we play at, is inevitable. Free Agency has hit CFB and not much they can do about it really. Just have to adapt. Successful coaches at this level are ones that can identify good players in search of more playing time and identify the right coaches to replace outgoing ones. Odom, to state the obvious, has aced that test so far.

Really hope the chips fall into place where we can “run it back” though. A lot of production is eligible to return. Probably too much to ask though. Still, never thought I’d see the day that San Diego St (or any program for that matter) was interviewing one of our coordinators to be their HC. Truly a magical season.

Then it would be it's a distraction before conference title game. Then it would be distraction before bowl game.

If you get asked for an interview I think you take it.

I doubt it. Coaches always stress importance of coming to games, heck most have contract incentives that give them a pay bump for attendance numbers. They also understand home field advantage. But overall, they knew what they were getting into when accepting the job. They knew attendance wasn't great and that it takes more than a few months to undo decades of bad product on the field.

Are there any rules against our convention authority from giving donations to UNLV football? I don't know how it works, but they keep funding huge amounts of money for F1, Las Vegas Ballpark plus a huge advertising budget. How about bringing some green towards UNLV...
It would need a legislative act for the convention authority to donate money to UNLV. Good luck with that

Patrick Sovoy coming back to be a RB?!?!?

Fair - we’ll see if ego outweighs commitment
