2022 4* Keba Keita will make his college announcement tomorrow, per sources. Keita is one of the top unsigned players in the class of 2022 and is maybe the most dominant paint presence in high school basketball. Keita is choosing between UNLV and Utah. He’s #85 in the ESPN100.

CKK haven't even announce the next AHC to replace the mercurial Hartman. Coach Hartman worth his weigh in gold, though....I think CKK will announce someone who is comparable.

UNLV is still f*cking around with money and balance sheet, IMO.

My source was wrong. Ouch.
Adaptation is the biggest factor contribute to evolution. Recruiting is fluid and adapting.

For example, we just got a PG commitment in JJ ...who will function better or who will be able to help or compliment his plays best?

Be patience

shit BC you had me pumped, dude looks like a grown ass man! Really a dick move if he was announcing tomorrow and the club he plays for steals his thunder and announces the night before.

Trip you know your shit... lol.. hey I'm out here in Florida too now. Up here in Bradenton Next to IMG... I train with the kids everyday in the gym. They have no clue who UNLV is was or what the hell happened 30 something years ago. it laughable. Aren't you in Ft Myers ?... Anyways You're right tho..... It's sooo early in the game. There are still going to be a lot of transfers. "Be patient" is absolutely correct.

I didn't like the KK hire at first. Then bought into it a little because I thought it meant pops was going to be using connections, and bringing the OU kids last year, with Hartman. So far zip! Hartman is gone, no OU kids, and LK seems to be at home with the grandkids. It looks like KK can actually coach a little. LK didn't play in the grey area, and it appears KK is the same. Don't want to jump off the KK wagon yet since he doesn't give you the used car salesman approach and almost had 20 wins playing actual teams. Something needs to change quick though. Think we might fill out the staff anytime soon? Seems like a good place to start.

I agree, we were sold a vision that absolutely has not come close to fruition. Some things definitely need to change quickly if UNLV is at all serious about becoming a good program again. I mean, why would they hire a new AC quickly while quality players are getting scooped up? That makes too much sense.

What makes actually sense is to replace all of the ACs with actual recruiters. How do they expect to improve with moderate talent?

There are several other high level recruits that have UNLV in their final 4/5. We will see what happens in the next 1-2 weeks. Sucks not to get this one, but Kruger will win some of the recruiting battles!

They have to have an assistant coach with kids they plan on bringing in. That's the only reason I can see them not having a full staff at game time(recruting period). They are literally handicapping themselves at the most important part of the off season by not having a full staff.

What would really scare me and let us know we are in trouble, is if they bring in an assistant(s) who doesn't bring any kids with him! If they went into the recruiting period missing a coach, then bring in an assistant with no kids, wow! That would be a really hard scenario to take.

Good area to live, RWAC. Im in south Sarasota toward the Amish community.

I’m all for optimism and respect your opinion. However an honest question has to be what has this staff done to make anyone of us think we will win any recruiting battles? The one HS player we have coming (maybe) was a Hartman recruit. This staff hasn’t shown the ability to recruit on the level needed. Once again, you get what you pay for and UNLV must be content with mediocrity from the last 5 years and the future.

It’s funny, now you can pay players and the new Kruger is still squeaky clean like pops was. Makes no sense.

Damn, you're close... we'll have to meet up one day and catch a game or something. I get down to Siesta Key beach, love the heavy sand there (for training) and I play bball sometimes at the Y down there. small world.

I have been reading that the vast majority of transfers, particularly the top 100, are still uncommitted.
UNLV has struck out with a few, no doubt. Lost a coach.
They have two recruits, plus Williams likely to come back. They are in the finals for several excellent players. Not having a replacement coach can be for several reasons.
This recruiting season may indeed bomb out. The new coach may be a bum, also.
Or, not.
The answer is to replace the entire staff? After one season?Like the unsettled situation at UNLV hasn't been a major problem? Hasn't affected recruiting??
Maybe Kevin will fail. And, then we can do the coaching circus again.
But, maybe we should give it a little bit more time?

And, one more thing. This is 2022. Kevin is not responsible for what happened before he got here. Can we, for God's sake, finally turn our heads forward instead of backward?
Shit happened. Lots of it. But we can't change it.

Looks like my post may have dated itself. If Buckley is gone now, that leaves only Chappell of the top three assistants.
So, now we can start hammering Kevin for losing staff.

I read Buckley got $350k a year at south carolina. Probably better than his pay here. Again, right during recruiting. This is starting to seem like the Cronon to Beard to late hire of Menzies year that killed recruiting and left a bare cupboard for Menzies

Nobody's saying KK needs to go, at least I'm not. Now down two coaches during recruiting time! They have to have a plan, don't they? You have LK with 40-50 years CBB experience advising KK. I don't see how they get into this situation with all of LK's experience. Couple new coaches with kids attached? Something isn't right. I really can't see KK not leaning on LK and wanting to do this all by himself his way. They out of everyone know the shit show UNLV athletics is. Is it UNLV not willing to shell out the money or have they decided after one year two coaches needed to go?

I Remember while Lon was here, he went thru quite a few different assistants. I remember being worried when we lost Marvin Menzies when he was on LK's staff....lol.?? WTF> ya live and learn. KK and his dad have a million connections. We'll be fine. I trust Kevin now. I like him as coach. IMO Dad is going to get involved. its time now

Menzies wasn’t a help in practice, he nailed the big recruit, Devon Jefferson, who couldn’t qualify at UNLV, so instead he played for USC. Funny how that works.

Maybe we can ask BC about USC acceptance rate back then? I remembered USC was like a 7-Eleven

Getting what he wants in assistants is as much recruiting as any player. It's going to be a battle to get who he wants, and sometimes that means going back to see how much he can sweeten the pot. I'd rather wait a little and get a better fit than get someone sooner who will allow us to simply relax and refocus our complaints. I'm not worried.

We are down to Chappell from mighty Lamar and Kevin who is not qualified for the position. How did we get to this place? Yeah I’m definitely over the UNLV amateur hour. Zero sense of urgency in recruiting quality assistants or players.

Yeah, the answer to ending amateur hour is changing staff every year.
Told you we could go to hammering Kevin for losing staff.
Next. We can hammer him for whoever he gets to coach or play.

Agree 100%. Just wish they would have started a little sooner. They had to know they would be losing the coaches, so I'm sure they have the names in mind of who they want and have been talking to them. Be nice if anyone could share if they know who their talking to.

I see lots of Chappell slander on the board. I have zero inside information but just from what I’ve been seeing through my own research, I think he’s a decent recruiter. Decent enough to be the reason we are in on Wesley Yates. Will we land him? No idea, and because I’m numb from years past, I’d say probably not. But he obviously has something going for him. And it also seems that he has a very good relationship with the guys on the team. Again, zero inside perspective so maybe I’m super wrong.

Not to nitpick, because 1962 was coaching freshman, but 1963, when he became an assistant at Oregon State to today, would be 49 years.
My point is, we have been reading how Kevin needs an experienced coach to help him. I thunk Cooper fits that.
If he can recruit, JJIII would be a start. Much more needed.
Also, let's see who the other coach hired will be.

Not even close.

When I mentioned that I was going there or got accepted initially, people would be impressed and assumed that I was as smart as a rocket scientist. I quickly showed them that sometimes SC lets people slip through the cracks. Haha.

What does this mean?

It means I don't know math. 59 years is more than the 52 you counted. Are there two spots left in the remedial math class?
Actually, my only point was he brings a ton of experience, which some have been calling for.
Now, recruits?
He may or may nit. The Katherine coach hire may or nay not either.
But the experience is there. Lon nay be able to enjoy his grandkids.

The John Cooper basketball coach was born in 1969. That makes him 52 or 53. The person we hired was never a coach at Oregon State. The football coach - John Cooper - was an assistant coach at Oregon State in 1963 but he was born in the 1930's and retired from coaching 20 years ago.
