Well if he does get poached then we are in good shape. Nobody is going to poach CJP unless we are winning at a high level. Hopefully we can get to USU level and have to worry about it every year or 2.
I know nothing ,but i think this is about as good of a hire as we could expect. He resume is great. Just putting things into perspective i mean for US!
I hope you are right about this because it would mean that he stays here that much longer!
I think Pastner has a plan this time around and UNLV basketball is going to benefit from it!

Garson was 129-42 as HC at NAIA College of Idaho before taking the Santa Clara gig. Good coach.
So, I'm starting to get a little nervous at the pace that CJP is assembling his staff. We still don't have official confirmation of Garson being hired as the AHC, no other staff rumors at all. Makes me concerned that Pastner wanted the job, but clearly didn't have his ducks in a row for the return to coaching.
It takes time to finalize staff before official announcements get made. Mullen took several weeks before some of the assistants were announced. There's often buyout to negotiate, contracts, etc...
Also rumor on X today is Jhawk might be moving South and joining Pastners staff
I think the guy will be getting a look from UCSD as HC if they haven't already hired someone. That would be a good place for him to get started in D1 as HC. But, yeah, we are in a wait for the official announcement to UNLV unless something like that happens.
That would be a smart move. Ideally, he would also have one Tark guy on his staff like Welch or Augmon but that's probably a pipedream.
That would stink if that happened. I really like the idea for Garson. He seems to be the exact answer for my biggest concern with Pastner.
Good news is that it looks like most players are waiting for the end of the season to make a decision. True I would like more bodies working on recruits at this point, but at least it seems like we haven't missed the boat completely yet.
I understand your point, but that's not really an apples to apple comparison. Football has much larger staffs and Mullen was hired at the start of a quiet period that was both preceded and followed by a dead period. He had room to wait 2 weeks for Arnett for example because there was no real recruiting that could be done. We are in an active recruiting period now and we'll have a week dead period starting 4/3. Having at least some staff locked in and formerly hired makes a huge difference in hoops.
Pastner sent his family back to Georgia and is working 24/7 to get recruits and coaches. He also clearly said he’s not just going to hire anyone on his staff, they have to be the right fit for him and UNLV.
See, I just watched a video interview where he said getting a staff in place as soon as possible was his top priority. A lot of guys already have a short list of coaches they want to work with, so I was hoping with the depth of his contacts in the industry we'd at least have someone v officially hired by now. I guess the dead period starts at the end of this week so if it goes past 4/3 any difference is moot.
Yeah ideally, soon as possible but said he has to make sure they are the right fit for UNLV and what he’s trying to do. We also don’t know who he is retaining for staff (hopefully none) but I saw a CKK assistant showing CJP around the facilities.
To me the priority is making contact with the portal players and engaging with current players/recruits because as you said the dead period is coming up.
