It's happening...

Joel Anthony 6'9", Louis Amundson 6'9" were small centers more like forwards coached by Lon Kruger here at UNLV. Odartey Blankson was a small forward but he could rebound. He had heart! Those players were Lons best center/forwards early in his UNLV history, and he definitely was better at recruiting guards. Also Tark usually played power forward types at center.
Those guys were the second coming of the twin towers, compared to what we usually recruited at center under him.

Like Larry Moffitt, Sid Green, Jarvis Basnight, David Butler and George Ackles.

Just in case anyone needed anymore confirmation. When the official account starts tweeting cryptic stuff, you know what happens next..
Don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble and I still believe the good news you’re hinting at is true. But that post isn’t cryptic, the hidden message says “Las Vegas > Reno”. Its just the social media guy having fun. It’s a twitter trend to put stuff in the image description. A lot of sports accounts from a bunch of schools have done the same trend, even UNLV football. Unfortunately I don’t think this post has any correlation with recruiting news.

Oh no dont worry, you're not bursting any bubbles! Theres a reason why they put Las Vegas > Reno and its not just because we are better than the school up north. Only reason why I know this is because I was there when it was tweeted lol.

Also, Cottrell replied with a simple "hi" to the tweet. When he tweets, its either to call someone out or to hint at good news lol

That’s good news then. This is probably me reading too much into the Reno thing but are we somehow getting Warren Washington?

Reading too much into it!

There was mutual interest but he wont be coming here. Texas Tech better pray he commits on his visit or shortly after because a school out west and another Big 12 school are preparing a nice NIL package for him.

As long as he doesn’t go to SDSU I’m fine with it.

ODot and Lou were both Spoon recruits.

As far as who played the 5 for Krugs that he recruited not named Joel Anthony:

Dustin Villepigue - 6'9"
Joe Darger - 6'5" (1.5 years starting at the 5)
Brice Massamba - 6'10"
Matt Shaw - 6'7" - Played more of a Euro5 role
Carlos Lopez-Sosa - 6'11"

And then the guys that didn't really play:
Beas Hamga - 7'2"
Emmanuel Adeife - 6'10"
Henry Buckley - 5 years of remaining eligibility.

And you would occasionally see at the 5:

Chopper Jones - 6'1"
Derek Jasper - 6'5"
Renee Rougeau - 6'4"

Lon never really recruited a great big man--or a really good one. Even Joel, who went on to have a very nice NBA career for an undrafted guy was really a defense-only guy. I would argue of the guys that coached here for 3 years or more, nobody had as bad a track record as recruiting a 5/true post as Lon. I think the fact that Lon could flat out coach covered a lot of those warts.

Size isn't everything, JK Edwards and Tony Lane were 6'6" and both played the 5 pretty well for us. Kebu Stewart was 6'8" and was pretty dominant. But I also think most 6'6" kids these days are working on being wings. More ball handling and shooting than post footwork and rebound positioning.

Houston was ranked No. 1 for most of the year. Their roster had two players listed at 6’9” and three at 6’8”. One of the problem 7 footer have is on defense because most can’t guard in space and coaches will take advantage of that like Nothern Iowa did with Brandon McCoy.

Good 7 footers are not abundant. I think that is why Tark and Lon went for a more power forwards that played aggressive, but I did forget that Amundson and Anthony were Spoon recruits. The Krugers definetly recruit better in the small forwards and guard positions, but hopefully it changes this year with Kaleb and any addition. Tark of course was definetly the best at getting Power forwards to play big. Was Elmore Spencer the only 7 footer Tark had?

Renee was such a hustler and versatile too! If I remember right, did he start as a walk on? Jk Edward's played huge for being undersized!

Brett Vorman 7 f
t transfer from UCLA played his last year for Tark on 78-79 team. Played in the NBA for a short time with the 76 ers.

Jarvis Basnight, Richie Adams, and Moffet(?) were all 6'8". Gilliam was listed at 6'9" but I think he was closer to 6'8" too, he just had a huge upper body.
