what would you be willing to sacrifice?
Let's say you are a young college student with a new baby. You have a job offer on the table, that between salary and commission, you could make between $50k and $150k over the next year. The commission is the hard part... It may come... it may not. So, it's highly possible that you will make closer to $50. You will be working amidst others with greater experience and power in the arena. The field is purely competitive, so the only way to maintain and advance, is to outperform your co-workers. The idea of making an income is savory, and you believe in yourself, so you're highly tempted.
However... Mom and dad want you to stay in school for one more year, and they own a large, successful company. They have seen a lot of promise in you of late. At first, you had a tough time handling your new classes. You did ok, but there were just some things you plain didn't get. Of late, though. You've scorched it. You've aced your 3 most recent tests, in difficult classes that directly correlate with success in mom and dad's company.
They don't want to see you sell yourself short, but at the same time, they believe you should prove, and earn your way. So, they make you this offer. If you stay in school and perform next year as you have on your last 3 tests, we will sign you to a contract to work for the company. That contract will deliver an immediate $2 Million Dollar signing bonus, and $2 Million Dollars per year over the next 3 years, with an option for the company to retain you in the fourth year for $4.4 Million Dollars.
And... Oh... Btw... You will also have to retake the ACT this summer, and mom and dad will pick up the tab for life, while attending classes next year.
