Harper....The next UNLV head basketball coach

Solidify funding for football, then take care of basketball. If we can do both this year, that’s the best outcome imaginable. If we can’t take care of #1, we won’t get to #2. And for God’s sake don’t ignore #1 to address #2.

I don’t think hear any news until Harper has his replacement committed and the $$$$ committed
I agree the $$$$$$$$ need to be committed, plus if I were the next coach I'd need to see at least a $ 3 million NIL. UNLV fans demand National relevance. With a weak NIL you'll just be the next UNLV coach to get fired after a four year run.

3 million NIL for a college basketball team? Come on man, we will be lucky to get half of that. There are plenty of good teams that will be playing next week that don't even have a million in NIL.

The average p4 is around $ 171,000 per player or $ 2.5 mil. BYU alone is 20 mil. A new coach needs to make an immediate impact and can't nudge up to being competitive. So $ 3 mil is reasonable.

Not gonna lie I hope Bedford comes back, he was my favorite player to watch in some stretches.

Also I think I owe two people here $20 bets on us finishing in the top 2 of the conference—- I’ll make a $100 donation to St. Jude for that lol

We aren't a P4 school. BYU has several millionaire donors. We also don't need to just fork out cash to win and make a tournament... it hasn't worked just paying players or trying to bring in all the talent. Just bring me players and a coach that work hard and are hungry to win

Thinking you can win without top players is a dream. And now you have to buy top players.

You're talking about winning something completely different... My goal for the next coach isn't winning a F4 or even a S16 appearance... I'm talking about just competing and maybe winning our conference or conference tournament to go dancing...
How much do you think CSU/Boise/Utah St have for NIL budgets for basketball? Yet all 3 have managed to make NCAA tournaments consistently...
We shouldn't worry about winning NCAA tournament games as an expectation for success for the next coach. The expectation alone should be getting to an NCAA tournament and winning thr conference. Anything else is a bonus and you can do that without forking out 3 million dollars in NIL

Take the”govenor’s off masked_rebel!

We don’t need to approach things with caveats any more, let the next guy come in “calling his shot at the plate” at the press conference!

I get what you are saying about being like CSU or BSU as far as success goes but let’s have a “take no prisoners” type of attitude while doing things too!

That's also not what I'm saying. What good does it do to have the next hire come in and say "he's confident UNLV can return to the national championship stage" when we haven't even win out conference since like 2000... I want the next guy to want to win conference titles and make the NCAA tournament.. anything after that is house money. As a mid-major that should be the goal every year.. not "make a S16 or compete for a Final 4" which is what some fans think every hire has to do to be successful...

Actions speak louder than words. Charisma, a good speaker, yeah, it draws, but you can do all that well, be shiny and intense and that doesn’t make you a good coach. If you talk a good game but can’t back it up, it’s used car salesman.

Odom wasn’t impressive or unimpressive with his pressers. Sanchez was more fiery and animated, liked to evoke emotion. So did Rollie when he came here, really tried to fire people up. Used car salesman.

Substance over style.

Now if the guy is fiery and he has a track record of success, boom. But if he talks more neutral and wins, that’s great too.

Title ls a pipe dream make the dance every 2-3 years with a periodic win.
C’mon man?!

CSU has made the tournament 3 out of the last 4 years? You mean to tell me we can’t at least look to that as a bar.

You ain’t got to be selling cars up there on the podium but don’t be trying to sell me on some also-ran type of stuff either.

We should be in the top of the MWC every year!

The days of 5-7 football teams and once in awhile basketball teams aren’t the norm around here anymore!

You are delusional if you believe that!
The lower majors and lower end of mid majors have good teams and yes, are under that amount.

The pool of good players is way deeper than it used to be. You can get players that are good without a lot of hype connected to their name.

Mullen has the past history and charisma, so I expect big thing, and hope the new basketball coach is cut from a similar cloth!

Talent evaluation is key. Why is it we always have the most of work with and we never have player of the year. Or very few team first team all-americans in the Mountain West

Or an NBA draft pick?
CSU has its 3rd in 3 years coming up this summer!

That’s just so frustrating. We’ve done such a poor job of hiring MBB coaches. Can’t imagine any school has had a worse run than UNLV.
There has been alot but not with what we have to work with. We have the most to work with and have done the least in comparison.

Sure that would be great and yet...we haven't made the dance in more than a decade. And we haven't won a game in well over 15 years. Going to the dance every other year with a periodic win would be a huge leap over that. I would also rather go a little less but actually win a game here and there vs CSU which has one first four win and that is it.
