The buyout is what TCU paid him I believe. I highly doubt any school would have to pay anything to hire him since TCU pushed him out the door

Patterson should be zeroed in on now since Herman is gone! He should be 1st choice due to the fact that at UNLV the pressure would be lower than any of the P5 schools out there. He would still need to win and go bowling more often than not but I think UNLV may be a perfect fit for him, he could retire here.

Well, suddenly with official 2024-25 cfp changes, the mountain west has a legit shot at sending a team to the 12 team playoff. Currently looks like the sun belt will get the auto bid as the #6 conference (since aac will lose its 3 contenders that season to the big 12). But soon, top schools in every conference... except maybe the MAC... could be playing meaningful late season gamea.
The most chatter I have seen that has to do with Patterson involves UNLV. Usually where there is smoke, there is fire, but you never know until the AD comes out with an official announcement. Personally I think he would be a great pick who could end up finishing his career here over the next 7-10 years.
This would be excellent. Hopefully this is how it goes, and it gets announced sooner than later.

Outside looking in a lot of what Harper has said and his actions lead me to think (despite my better judgment) that he knew or thinks he can lock down somebody.
I think he was interviewed and said he wants. to finish what he and Sarkeesian are doing in Texas (something along those lines).
He's at that age where he may still want to coach but doesn't want to do all the other stuff like press conferences, long recruiting trips, shake babies and kiss boosters hands etc.
Harsin would be solid. I wouldn't be upset with that at all.
Here's my concern albeit a small one.
Did well his one year at Arkansas State but they were solid prior to that I think. Kept the Boise train rolling.
Is he a guy that can turn something around or more of a solid caretaker?
Again I'd be ok with it if that were to end up being the hire.

Not that it means much, and may just add more fuel to the speculation fire, but read this on another forum. The reference was in regards to the report from Feldman earlier this week:

His stint at Houston was solid. Texas A&M wasn't bad. It's not like Jimbo is doing much better. Arizona stint was not good at all.

He did well at A&M when he had Johnny Manziel there, but any coach would have done well with Manziel at A&M. Once Manziel left then A&M was just a little better than mediocre. His time at Arizona was a disaster. I just feel it would be a very underwhelming hire. With that being said though, it could be a whole lot worse than having him coach the Rebels.
To be fair, his records at A&M were the following:

Definitely showed regression, however going up against the rest of the SEC West year in and year out (Alabama, LSU, Auburn, etc), those records are somewhat respectable.
Jimbo Fisher hasn't exactly lit the world on fire since taking over from Sumlin either.
