A strangely specific predictable pattern has emerged with this group:

1. Really good defense in for the first 10-15 minutes
2.. offensive game plan is good/ not great
3. build 10 point lead
4. take 5 point lead into final 3 minutes
5. get completely away from offensive game plan and rely on Thomas iso
6.. piss away 5 point lead in the final minute and game comes down to the last shot.

Im not into sportsbetting - do they do in-game wagering for mid-major bball?

It’s one of the ugly parts of college hoops in general and you’ve seen it happening for awhile. Game plan until it’s tight, then there’s a reversion to “hero ball” or one on one, all semblance of guardrails, discipline fall off a cliff and it’s becomes primal/instinct. Even with a lot of the good teams. We’ve witnessed that falloff for a long time now.

And the reality is that some of the kids just don’t want the ball in their hands as the final seconds tick off which contributes to the ISO’s. This is where very well coached teams separate themselves. Not just good coaches, excellent coaches are necessary for these end-game situations.

This has to do with lack of a bench vs anything else. We don't have legs for our starting 5 to go 40 minutes at that intensity. When your starting 5 is playing 30+ minutes a game at our pace at times, their legs start to go. Legs start to go you miss easy shots, you dont move as much on offense and you miss FTs.
