Playing college athletics has nothing to do with being smart. While some athletes are really smart and do great at college, there are also those who would never have moved past fast food if not for college athletics!

Sometimes you are what you are and you aren’t going to escape it, even with multiple opportunities. You have to assess on a case by case basis. Given his history prior to FSU, I considered him untouchable … but he has a lot of talent …. Even Tark struck out with some of those guys. He did far better than most, but even then, missed on some of them.

Sometimes it’s innocuous (laziness but decent people) and it’s not so risky. When it’s repetitive criminal, that’s different.

You look at the last three FP athletes we had at UNLV, Massamba and Lopez were fine, they weren’t top talent but they worked and they were good teammates. The last three - they were lazy AF, not bad people but supremely lazy. And they carried their laziness into the NBA. If the NBA ain’t going to whip the laziness out of you, it was never going to happen. And all of them were absolutely talented enough to make the NBA. Just zero drive/focus.

I'm not talking book smart I mean common sense smart. Like don't drive your car 100mph while high on drugs. Or don't bet on games in which you are playing.
