ESPN story about The Raiders

Good read. Don't know that I agree with the characterizations of the two cities. Maybe the casino industry is "fading," but I don't think Las Vegas is. Maybe the pie has gotten larger and non-gaming is taking a larger piece, I dunno. It's been about a dozen years since I lived there. But this quote "Then there's this: The Raiders and the NFL are leaving a large and revitalized market for a seedy and slumping sprawl town, where the hope is that the home team will fill half the stadium with its fans on any given Sunday." Leaves no question on which side the authors stand... or slouch.

Yeah, Vegas is on 3rd and 11... Tell that to Mr. Foley. Another thing I found interesting was that the author conveniently omitted the part about where the LVCC DID get their money. The main thing that I got out of this is the maneuvering that Jones did re: Fantasy Sports. I was unaware of that angle.

If nothing else Las Vegas is evolving. We aren't dying by any means. Gaming might be slowing down, but in its place come family friendly and corporate friendly alternatives.

That is a fascinating article. What I am most curious about is how they got so many quotes from what were conversations between only two or three people.

Overall it sounded fairly objective - but there seemed to be no point for including the shots at LV mentioned above.

The same two writers will likely turn this into a chapter in their upcoming book on NFL politics did a similar account of the Rams/Raiders/Chargers competition for relocation to L.A.:

Good read. Not really true about Las Vegas in many respects and SA doesn't have near the power that the writer and his "NFL source" believe....but it was fun to read after getting past the ignorance held by outsiders regarding our fine city.
