A lot of Rebel fans remember her more for her association with Bob Maxon than the good things she did for the community.

She was very like minded with Maxon that UNLV needed to concentrate on Academics and that Tark had too much power. She feared UNLV becoming known as a basketball factory only and some at the time thought she conspired with Maxon to get rid of Tark and take the focus away from basketball.

I remember the kidnapping thing that happened at Sonny’s Saloon at the old Spring Mountain location. They had an incredible Chinese menu back in the day and me and some coworkers used to eat there after working at Circus Circus.

Elaine def wanted Reggie Theus, so there’s that… I used to work front of house at Wynn, he stayed at the Tower Suites while he was interviewing for the job. Not sure if she was apart of the “run Tark out of town squad” as compared to Steve and Maxon, but it’s these types of big money boosters that UNLV doesn’t have anymore while big schools have like 30 of them. I believe there was an attempt to have her and others get Pitino here one last time while he was in Greece only to be shot down by DRF.

You worked at Circus Circus? I worked the Midway in the summer of 1985 or 86. It was ok work but I hated the Horse and Camel derby games because you had to call the games like a real race announcer. I wish I had been more creative and given the horses/camels dumb names.

Oh I was freakin’ awesome at that. That was my second job. Hated the people that would cheat and use more than 1 ball. I was stealing 100 dollars a night on those games. I would go inside the prize bins so the cameras wouldn’t catch me. Star darts was a super high dollar game. I opened adventuredome.

There was a guy named Harvey (he was a f’n dick) and another guy..skinny as hell with curly hair. They all used to be midway attendants, worked as supervisors

There’s a couple people I know that are still there to this day..

Are there any potential individuals on the Wynn level or groups of 100 millionaires that could pool together money for NIL, or are we just sunk?

Elaine also said it was the success of the basketball program in the mid 70’s is what led them to wanting to get involved with UNLV. Maxson weaseling Elaine Wynn in charge of the UNLV Foundation in the mid 80s was the second big domino in the downfall of the program. The Foundation was the primary fund raising arm of the University and had been under the control of Jerry’s good friend Irwin Molasky.

Getting Elaine in charge enabled Maxson to get access to key power players in town to sell his “Harvard of the West”, academics over athletics, vision as well as having Elaine sell his message on his behalf. Over time they were able to brainwash some key influential people that ultimately help lead to Jerry’s downfall.

After being embarrassed by their role in destroying the program Steve and Elaine were largely invisible. They were heavily involved in trying to lure Pitino in 2001 as they had a relationship with him, but after that failed that was really it for them. They did support Reggie in 2011 but they didn’t exactly do a whole lot of heavy lifting.

Hopefully she donates all her money to UNLV BB and FB or better her employees !!
