Concern with UNR game

Obviously a rivalry game and everything that goes with that. This is UNRs Bowl game/National Championship Game... nothing else exists past this game for them. They want nothing more than to hand us an L.
We obviously have tremendous motivation too - I get that!
My main concern is Reno players playing dirty... injuring our players... late hits, targeting, rolling with someone's leg, low blocks, ... etc. Just trash play to get a W... or take us down with them. I think it could be amplified if we pull ahead significantly.

Always a possibility with UNR. I'm really hoping that we can jump on them early in the 1st half and take the wind out of their sale, then just coast to the win in the 2nd half with backups getting a lot of reps.

If we're up big there should be no reason to play any starter. Also, it would be nice to let a guy like Friel finish his playing career on the field. I REALLY hope we're in a position to let him run things for a while.

I agree this is a rivalry and Reno's bowl game but I trust the hell out of our leadership and captains to keep guys in the right mindset. I can't see a scenario where Woodard, Baldwin, White, or deJesus don't play with their foot to the pedal and require everyone else to do the same. 3% of me is fearful we don't beat Reno down.

Is Friel for sure done after this year? From what I can see, he's been with UNLV for 4 seasons, but in 2023, he only played in 1 game and had 1 rushing attempt and 0 passing attempts. Seems like he could be eligible for a 5th year if he so desired. With all the shenanigans from the NCAA these days, I really have no clue what the requirements are any more. But if Cam Rising can play for 7 years, and possibly still be eligible for an 8th, I don't see why Frield couldn't be also.

Reno sucks... they just lost a game where Air Force didn't complete a single pass. They're terrible. Super Bowl or not, they gave up 300 yards rushing to a 3 win team...

That’s another part of my concern… ‘looking at ‘3 win teams’ does not tell the whole story. It might, if they were blow out losses, that’s not the case…
I’m glad we have true focus and leadership on this team, because we will need all of it to finish the way we want!

There is reason for some concern in this year’s rivalry game. UNR’s last game of the season and nobody expects them to win. They will go all out with nothing to lose.

The game isn’t a gimme either. They played #9 SMU to a 1 score game and #11 Boise State to a 1 score game. Their record is bad but at times they’ve actually played pretty tough.

BUT- With all that said, this is a different UNLV team and program. I expect this team to be focused and deliver a decisive win with so much on the line for the Rebels. The Cannon stays RED.

It would bring me, you, and all UNLV fans the most pain to come up short on this game…. I truly believe this team has what it takes to keep focused and make us proud.

Despite their record Reno has been involved in a number of close games including Boise. Boise has looked like they are leaking some oil down the stretch since they played us. But Reno did play them tough.

But as mentioned Reno played a very good SMU team tough to start year. (SMU much like Oregon has played much better football since).

Reno's only real lopsided losses were Minnesota and CSU. The CSU game was a comedy of errors for them basically handing CSU 14 points.

I think Rebs win. But I anticipate Reno putting up a better fight than SDSU.

I know they’re as stuck as we are. But hypothetically if they screw us in such a manner; we declare war. I mean it. We rise up and push them out of the state. They can be 51st state of the United States. We’ll add one more star to every flag. They can become the state of reno. We’re keeping name Nevada and the rest of the state.
