CDM Era: Transfer Portal and Recruits Thread

Right up until enough of these guys get together on 1 lawsuit.
it would still be an injunction. Every person would still have to file and hope the judge grants the injunction. The NCAA would have to get a board meeting and change the rule. The players need a CBA. That's the next move.

The issue can be that if the NCAA tries to stop anyone from playing, they can be opened up to a lawsuit for damages now that a precedent has been set.
that's not how injunctions work. One district court issuing an injunction has precedent on no one, not even someone who lives in that same judicial district. They can be persuasive authority, but that's it

Tell that to the initial injunctions regarding all the NIL issues that turned into a huge lawsuit that every school is now paying off. An injunction ultimately becomes one of the first steps of documentation in regards to financial damages.

I hope this isn't turning into a New Mexico style blood bath with the number of transfers. No doubt the coaches that are leaving have told the players they will not be staying. Without a question the special teams and defense coach are gone along with many of their players.
But unlike UNM we will easily replace players with equal or better players (due to big time coach(s).

I don’t have any insight in that regard, just basing it on having a few players enter the portal last year and deciding to stay plus the upward momentum of the program and bringing in CDM has got to be entering into their equation.
I hope Chittenden is one of them I watch some of these top teams like OSU and Clemson etc play and sweat out their shaky kickers makes it nice to have him and only a freshman.

It's ridiculous really so the NCAA can't say how many years eligibility you have and what counts towards that? Why limit it to 4 why not 10 years eligibility?
The Corruption of the NCAA has long made that boat sail. Tarkanian's rolling mantra was that the NCAA had a double-standard for enforcement, that it picked on smaller schools but protected the sugar-daddy power programs. Per Coach Tarnanian: "The NCAA was so mad at Kentucky they gave Cleveland State two more years of probation." So when has the NCAA ever had any control over the major programs?

Both Branch bros? Wow, that would be something. No idea as to the validity.

Also, with regards to that QB, I'm not saying he wouldn't start since I know nothing about him, but he hasn't done anything at the college level yet, so it might be risky for Mullen to put all of his trust in a QB that hasn't played much at the D1 level yet

Well it would balance out the haves and have nots. IF i players can keep on going to school to get a degree there would be so much overflow. That even the smaller schools would be able to capitalize somewhat. There is a reason why Senior dominated teams do so well. Imagine a team full of 25 years olds. HEY this is what they wanted( recruits) so u have to allow the schools to capitalize on it also with all this craziness going on. FULL DISCLOSURE im OK with all of this. ITs America and i believe in capitalism just as long as it impartial.

There is no doubt the NCAA is the cause of their own demise. I am the last person to support government oversight but in this case it would have been better to have the NCAA under government not just to establish across the board standards but because now you would have senators from smaller states speaking out if their schools weren't treated fairly. Vs the back door dealings we saw with the NCAA.

All the schools with the $$ will end up with the best ones anyway. I support capitalism too but that isn't forcing schools to allow players to stay into their 30s.

95 South is superior to Tag Team!!

This song hit so hard back in 1993

dude I don’t have a radio. I’m out of the loop for modern music.
Tag Team was played every time the Las Vegas Thunder scored a goal so its pretty near and dear to my heart as a former Thunder season ticket holder.

A few of the UNLV "insiders" all thought it was a possibility when they announced they were portal bound. But they arent coming cheap.

Wonder how many would be in the portal if Odom had stayed? I’m sure there wouldn’t be as many, but the reality is many still would have. That is, unfortunately, the nature of college football today.
Win win for them. Get to play for a coach they love, AND get paid a little bit more. Purdue also increased their NiL budget too.

If Purdue participates in revenue sharing, they'll hit the max allotment based on their school's athletic revenue. They'll have 105 eligible athletes that will receive $148,861 a year. That's completely separate from additional NiL.

"All the schools with the $$ will end up with the best ones anyway."

The only way this is controlled is with a "salary cap". This would involve paying players and then negotiating salary caps in the "league". Without some type of cap it will get down to 5-10 teams who always win.

But we know how that would work with big schools. Cap reached, under the table for the other dudes. You’d be better off under the table anyway for tax purposes.

It’s too out of control. NCAA will play the don’t ask, don’t tell game with that.

It won't be the NCAA. The top schools will break away and players will form representation. Use the current pay cap/ luxury tax in pro sports as a guide. As far as under the table goes I can see teams stretching the rules ( think NHL ) before i can see much under the table activity. Teams will be thoroughly audited and each team will have an interest in keeping the others in line.
